I Know That Keith's First Telecaster Was Acquired Around The Exile Sessions. In The March Issue Of Guitar World, Keith Is Holding A Butterscotch Blonde Telecaster Which Was Given To Him By Eric Clapton. Could This Be His First Tele? |

Keith has said in interviews that he bought an whole bunch of American guitars on the 1965 U.S. tour, including Gibson Les Paul's and Firebirds, and some Fender Telecasters and Stratocasters, allthough je admitted he didn't like the Fenders at the time. However, the are pictures of him playing a grey 1965/1966 Telecaster on the Between the Buttons sessions and there's pictures of the Beggars Banquet sessions of him and Brain playing a blond late '50 Telecaster, which Brian even played on the Jumping Jack Flash promo. Taylor played the lead part of You Gotta Move with this Telecaster and he used this one for the Saville Theater gigs in December 1969.

I've seen a picture of Keith playing a white Telecaster in 1966. |

I've seen a picture of Brian Jones playing a Tele from around '65 or so, a blonde one with a rosewood neck. The Tele from the Satanic Majesties sessions was blonde but with a maple neck. |

Another Question I Wanted To Ask Is Does Anyone Know When Keith Started Putting Gibson P.A.F. Humbuckers Into His Teles? And Why He Thought Of Doing That In The First Place. I Mean It's The Best Idea To Come Along Since Sliced Bread. Maybe Ted Newman Jones Did It For Him? |
