Ten Thousand Motels The Simpsons named top cartoon

26/02/2005 - 10:31:58
IO

The Simpsons has eclipsed classics like Tom and Jerry to be named the greatest cartoon.

Matt Groening’s creation has topped a poll of 100 best cartoons voted for by TV viewers.

Homer, Marge, Bart, and Lisa beat Hanna Barbera’s Tom and Jerry to second place, and the more recent South Park to third.

It has been voted more impressive than Hollywood blockbusters Toy Story (4th), and Shrek, voiced by stars like Mike Myers, Eddie Murphy and Cameron Diaz.

Bugs Bunny has made it to tenth place but other classics like Popeye (23), Danger Mouse (24) and Pinnochio (25) have been relegated by modern wonders like The Incredibles (9th) and Finding Nemo (14).

The characters of The Simpsons are named after Groening’s family.

They came about in 1986 when he was asked to create a few animated shorts for the Tracey Ullman Show.

The Simpson family had their own show on Fox three years later, becoming the network’s highest-rated show almost immediately, and attracting a host of guest star voices.

The 100 Greatest Cartoons are being revealed in a countdown programme on Channel 4 on Sunday at 8pm.

glimmercat Simpsons Rule!!

But The Nightmare Before Christmas is truly a revelation!

When it was in first run, I was on day shift (6:30am-3pm) & I went to see it every day for 2 weeks. The lady at the counter would see me & print up my ticket before I even got to the window! I got the soundtrack for Xmas a few years ago (finally!!) & played it to death. That movie is very close to the top of my Top 10 list.

Gotta love Jack!!!

Ten Thousand Motels Some missing notables....

Rocky & Bullwinkle & Mr Peabody & Sherman

Quick Draw McGraw (But I suppose he's covered by Hannah/Barbera)

(My one disappointment is that they never animated Gary Larson's stuff or Shoe.)

if any of you guys haven't seen this movie, you really should!!!

Life Size?? Yowza. How tall was it--7 feet or something? That would be way cool!! The only Nightmare item I had was the souvenir popcorn bucket from the movie theatre. I paid for a jumbo serving, but just wanted the bucket. The server couldn't understand why I didn't want popcorn *in* the bucket (greasy!!) & it took a few minutes to get what I actually wanted. Unfortunately, in all the moving I've done in the meantime, it got schmushed. Sniff.

For sure, those were pretty weak. I never could stand those cartoons that Captain Kangaroo ran either. Can't even remember the name of them now.

Soldatti The Simpsons were the best cartoon of all times thanks to the "golden era" 1990-1997. Sadly they sucked since 1998.
