exile Its not often that i get into new technology...well maybe now and again I bought a digital camera recently.

I have seen the ads yes
I thought "BIG DEAL" an mp3 player "WHO CARES"

anyway a friend at work bought an iPod at work so i took a look

anyway I bought a 20 GB ipod and 'MAN' im pretty impressed

So far i have a fair chunk of my CD collection on it PLUS every mp3 i have ever downloaded on it PLUS 2 CDs of STONES BOOTS that egon sent me.... EVERY ROLLING STONES ALBUM i own is on there.

its only just over a quarter full ... i plug it into my speakers its a mobile jukebox

so far 1845 songs and 7.41GB

..... anyone else have one?

Gazza I thought about getting one at Christmas but havent done so as yet - they seemed hard to find at that time of year as they were the "in" toy of the moment!

They sound a great idea but I've been a bit put off by the talk that the batteries have a very limited lifespan and can take well over 100 to replace - almost enough to make you buy another ipod instead - and are almost impossible to obtain anywhere but from Apple.

luridchief Gazza, that battery problem has been blown out of proportion. I know people who have the first generation iPod and the battery is still going just fine.

There are also cheaper replacement options. Check out the following site for lots more info:

And . . . enjoy!

mac_daddy 20 hours wth the Karma...

Throbby, sound qualty is awesome, remember FLAC is lossless...

mp3s or oggs encoded at high bitrates sound good, too...

great support/user group, too (which is a plus)...

and RiO was just bought by Denon, who are taking the brand seriously...

Gazza Luridchief

thanks for the info - I'll bookmark that for future reference!

exile yeah sound quality is great
easy to navigate

small enough to have your entire CD collection in your pocket (seriously)

there are even smaller ones coming out Ipod mini's they only hold 1000 sonmgs though... probably cheaper though id say

midnightmagic I would buy an mp3 player if I knew I could download every stones boot there are into the little box.

Can you transfer a cd into mp3?
If someone could do it I would provide the server space.

Does anybody know if at least half the boots are available on mp3??

does a one legged duck swim in circles?

here yah go;

it's free, and it's easy.
transfers mp3 to wave (normal cd format), or a cd into mp3.

regarding ipods;
i have an archos 6000mb.
it's much cheaper than the ipod, but of course you have less memory.. also the controls are not fantastic (basically you use the screen as you would use your pc screen only without a mouse and it's much smaller...)
sound is good when you hook it to your stereo, but average with a headset.

it's actually just a portable hard disk that can store everything, but by itself can only play mp3s.
i create my play list on the pc before taking it out, cos to do it with the player itself takes a lot of time.

all in all i find price/quality very reasonable,
especially compared to the ipod which is ridiculously expensive.
