Topic: Sad Day For Couch Potatoes Return to archive
19th February 2007 02:37 PM
glencar Robert Adler, who died Thursday at the age of 93, was the co-inventor of the remote control, the device that has bedeviled, edified and otherwise sustained a grateful nation of couch potatoes ever since its introduction. Along with inventor and fellow engineer Eugene Polley, Adler helped bring the first commercially successful wireless TV remote — the Zenith Space Command — to market in 1956.

downtownsuzie I love my remote control.

I didn't even think that someone had to invent it. I thought they just came with televisions.

I used to think Q-Tips were guns. Which is why I didn't get that Q-Tip quote on Friends.

Probably, in the US, the brand name became the accepted common name, in this case, it's a cotton ear swab, one maker called them Q-tips, and everyone calls them that regardless of the maker...

I would like it to be known Mr Phelge, that downtownsuzie is a very intelligent, beautiful british girl. I know this through many hours of conversation with her.

Give her a while to settle in on this board and you too will see this beauty and inteligence.

Embrace the fact that she is a young girl who loves the stones!
