Dan I was going to go see Supergrass last night but it was sold out and after seeing the setlists for this particular tour I knew I couldn't pass it up.

Scored a cheap ticket in the Premier section, which is usually reserved for season ticket holders. Private VIP entrance, shorter lines for concessions and restrooms, nice carpeting, less crowded, celebrity sightings (Greg Brady, John Fogerty), much friendlier staff since everyone walking through those doors is supposed to some sort of hot shot.

Bought the tickets around 7:40 which almost made me wish I held out longer for a better bargain but it just seemed right to jump on those. Even got a parking pass with it though I didn't need it. The guy should have found the VIP parking lot and tried to get a few bucks for it there. Didn't really occur to me to do that til after the show though.

Stayed in the lobby for Lenny Kravitz. Sounded just fine out there. He played way too long, seemed like 90 mins. It sounded okay when he was rockin' but some of the songs just dragged.

The changeover was pretty quick. Aerosmith played about 100 mins. Kinda shorter than I am used to them playing but adding 6 or so MTV era songs for a 135 min set definitely would NOT have made for a better show. Saw a few songs I never saw them do live. SOS sounded pretty good, No More No More they totally nailed it. Train Kept A Rollin' was played like the Get Your Wings version. Baby Please Dont Go had a nice long jam.

Steven Tyler yelled at security at some point "Would you let them come up here?" and the crowd in the front rushed forward. Tyler, Perry and Hamilton spent a lot of time on the ramps. They would jam next to each other a little bit but often were all about 20 feet or more apart from each other. Draw The Line was awesome. Joe still takes his shirt off and beats on the guitar with it.

Anaheim is looking really tempting now

Might add more as I remember it, here is the setlist:

01. Helter Skelter
02. Walk This Way
03. Same Old Song And Dance
04. Cryin'
05. S.O.S. (Too Bad)
06. Livin' On The Edge
07. Shakin' My Cage
08. Stop Messin' Around
09. Sweet Emotion
10. Seasons Of Wither
11. Dream On
12. No More No More
13. Baby Please Dont Go
14. Train Kept A Rollin' (like On Get Your Wings)
---
15. I Don't Want To Miss A Thing
16. Back In The Saddle
17. Draw The Line
-Happy Birthday To Brad Whitford/introducing the band-

Break The Spell The majority of my favorite Aerosmith songs are their cover songs, "Train Kept A Rollin'" and "Milk Cow Blues" are both pretty damn good.

I know, having to choose between Supergrass and Aerosmith was pretty tough. It was almost as bad as the time 2 years ago that David Bowie and Iron Maiden were playing the same night. That particular decision was made easier by seeing Maiden the night before and that they always play the same setlist. Last night the decision was made for me by my policy of not buying tickets in advance.

Yeah but this is coming from a Barbra Streisand fan who gets "humiliated" every time his favorite band goes on tour.

Saint Sway their recent material blows worst than any other band. But these guys still bring it and deliver live. They still rock hard. Very hard.

sure they've aged considerably, but unlike another band we all know, the guitarists still wail onstage

Did he switch guitars mid solo by swinging one around his back why wailing on slide on the other? Thats a bad ass move. Gotta have a ton of swagger and tude to pull it off. Not to mention chops.

Joe Perry's the shit.

jb Oy Vey!!! This is not an AS fan board...fuck those washed up Stones wannabees...actually worse than U2!!!
23rd February 2006 03:31 PM
Dan I am not sure about 2 guitars during Draw The Line but he definitely had 2 guitars during No More No More.

They have their own legacy, "wannabe" anything hasn't been applicable since their first hit song (which sounds NOTHING like the Stones etc).

I saw him one time actually hit 3 recently. He finished soloing on one. Swung it over his back and without missing a step threw on another and continued the solo. Then jumped on a lap steel for a bit and then back to a slide solo.

Joe's a guitar god.

bob kidrock ritchie The Cohl's probably think of Aerosmith the same way the NFL thought about replacement players when the NFL went on strike. The Cohl's probably think, "god forbid, should anything ever happen to one of the ranking members of the Stones, we could still make millions of dollars touring, by inserting the corresponding Aerosmither in his place."

Their Legacy is pre-pubescent videos with Alicia Silverstone for young boys to masterbate to on MTV...........

Actually they have built two separate legacies almost like 2 different bands. The one you mentioned which has run its course unlike the many other now struggling bands of the MTV era, they still have their original legacy of a solid, raw, hard rock n roll band. Thats the band I saw last night. If I was actually as close last night as I was for some Stones shows, Aerosmith would rank much higher.

jb On their worst day, the Stones make Aersomith look like lil wannabee...they never could and still can't come close to being what the Stones represent....they have tried really hard, but they simply ain't no Jagger/Richards....they are for sure power ballad specialists , cheesy video champs, and greaty for opening a theme park roller-coaster.
23rd February 2006 04:19 PM
Starbuck i would rather have lead pipes shoved underneath my toenails than listen to an aerosmith album.

First you have to answer what the Stones represent these days. I see the way they conduct their tours as no different than the way Aerosmith conducted themselves in the MTV era. Duh, of course they aren't Jagger/Richards, they are Tyler/Perry/Hamilton/Whitford/Kramer, even someone as dense as you should be able to figure that out.

keefjunkie Aerosmith fuckin rocks! Badass setlist too.

I envy you Dan.

I may be dense, but I am smart enough to hate Aerosmith and make more about 1 Million this year..........Hey Tyler, "Got Plastic Surgery".

Just like when talking about the Stones he makes stuff up and hope it sticks, often falling flat (like when he insisted the Hollywood Bowl shows were "wide open.") I hope he does a better job for his clients in the courtroom!
