Topic: Can you hear Bowie on IORR? Return to archive
02-22-03 05:37 AM
morocco I've read that Bowie sang and played back up acoustic on IORR. I can't hear him. Can you?

I remember seeing Bowie during the Diamond Dogs era and in the middle of "Diamond Dogs" live, he began singing IORR.

Do you think Keith Richards will ever play for Bowie?

I sure can't. I read an interview with Keith who said you could still hear David Bowie playing acoustic in it, but he wasn't there when the initial tracks were laid down.

Keith made a big deal out of erasing all of Ronnie's tracks and replacing them himself, and I think they're still sore at each other about that because Woody recently said "you missed my 12-string!" - which I ALSO cannot hear. Bowie used to play acoustic 12-string, so maybe the 12-string which you can't hear is Woody playing David Bowie's guitar.

HOWEVER they recorded that song, it is a CLASSIC sound. The studio version is magic. The live version never comes close to the slow-burning groove of the the single, and Keith's guitar has that "Chuck Berry in Hell" thing down cold.

I also like the alternate take they used for the soapsuds video.
