Got a question for the senior technicans around here....
Upon completing a torrent download, does a leech/peer automatically become an official seed if the completed file is left open for others in upload status? Or do you have to actually do something to move from leech/peer status to seeder?
I don't know how to start a seed file yet but I do keep my finished downloads available for others who are behind me. I'm just wondering if I'm actually an official seed then or whether I just remain as a peer with a 100% complete file?
Next on my agenda will be to learn how to maximize my upload speeds. It's my understanding that ya have to do something with your IP port assignments - every time for every file or does doing it once (correctly) get it done for all time?
Just a beginner trying to move forward so I can help others as best I can......

well, if anyone is downloading from you (and this normally happens after a while even if you havent completed the download), youre automatically "seeding"
The standard netiquette is to try and keep the torrent open so that you eventually upload as much as you have downloaded |

Thx Gazza. You confirmed what I already figured was going on - just didn't know if there was anything formal one needed to do to become a seeder rather than just an ongoing peer. Seems not - just keep it out there and let the folks copy to their heart's content!
