UB to sponsor Rolling Stones' Indian summer

BANGALORE, Feb. 17
AFTER Sir Elton John, it's now Sir Mick Jagger. The UB
Group will sponsor Rolling Stones' first ever Indian
summer.
The legendary rock band will hit the country in mid-
April for a whirlwind three-city tour covering
Bangalore, Mumbai and New Delhi, a show which is being
organised by DNA Networks.
Mr Alok Gupta, Vice-President (Marketing), UB Spirits
Division, said, "Our flagship brand, McDowell's No.1
Whisky, will be presenting Rolling Stones in India."
UB and its premier whisky had earlier sponsored Sir
Elton John's live concert in Bangalore in November
last year. The UB Spirits Division, which consists of
McDowell & Co and Herbertsons, with annual sales
topping 30 million cases, is one amongst the top five
marketers of alcoholic spirits in the world.
McDowell's No.1 Whisky with sales of four million
cases has a loyal customer base cutting across market
segments. "Rolling Stones appeals to the mass and the
class. It has a universal appeal and is also classy.
For a brand like McDowell's No.1, it is essential to
associate with legends who have a wider appeal," Mr
Gupta said. Rolling Stones with the recently knighted
Mick Jagger as the lead vocalist is touted as music
industry's most prolific money churning act with
revenues exceeding $1.5 billion since 1989. Mr Gupta
said the association of McDowell's No.1 with the Elton
John concert worked well in imparting an international
feel for the brand. "The sponsorship of mega musical
concerts of this scale involves substantial
investment. So, we tracked the impact of the Elton
John event with two independent agencies and the
outcome was definitely encouraging," he added,
explaining the reason for UB's continuing.
