Topic: Brian Jones inspired many early songs? Return to archive

morocco When I listen to many of the Stones' eary hits, I sense they are about, or directly inspired by, Brian Jones.

Ruby Tuesday, As Tears Go By, Heart Of Stone, and many others, seem to be about Brian Jones.

He is the sad clown sitting on the park bench in As Tears Go By.

He is the ruby-scarved heart-breaker in Ruby Tuesday, always one step ahead of his suitors.

He is the Midnight Rambler, wielding a knife and jumping fences in the dead of night.

He watches Keith and Anita from a distance, and Can't Always Get What He Wants.

Brian Jones, truly a rock star's rock star, and an inspiration to Mick and Keith.

egon interesting way of looking at it, but if he really was the inspiration...?

he had lot of influence on the sound though.

dkmonroe I understand that Brian was the inspiration for "Miss Amanda Jones", and "Ride On, Baby." I don't really think that Mick and Keith invented Brian-inspired legendary characters for their songs (like Ruby Tuesday or the Midnight Rambler), but I do believe that they sometimes ridiculed him in song.
