Rip This Joint I always thought Charlie's drumming on If You Cant Rock Me was pretty awsome

FPM C10 My favorite Charlie performance has always been Hip Shake. Sounds easy - YOU try it!

It's one of those songs that seperates the men from the boys, drum-wise, and the gods from the men.

I also LOVE his drums in "Thru and Thru".

thats the same photo I have framed on my wall as an 8' x 10'.

Personally signed and sent to me by the great man himself

speedfreakjive just re-listened to Monkey Man. I fail to hear anything exceptional with the drumming.

Charlie is a lot more tactful and artful than Bonham, Moon or anyone else IMHO.
February 13th, 2006 10:14 PM
Zack Like one reviewer said in 97, Charlie drives the Stones like a Porshe.
February 13th, 2006 10:18 PM
speedfreakjive I reckon Aston Martin would be a more accurate comparison; it has more class than a Porsche.
February 13th, 2006 10:30 PM
RollingstonesUSA I def agree with If You Can't Rock Me, But my personal fav is Hand of Fate!
February 13th, 2006 10:58 PM
speedfreakjive can't believe I forgot HTW!
Satisfaction's good too.

IanBillen "Oh No Not You Again" is Charlie showing he is still rough edged and can drive it home. I LOVE the way he rides that symbol at the start. He shows great drumming there.

Love the explosive rolls on It Won't Take Long.

Driving too fast is Charlie in the pocket.

This Album is so Keiths Guitar-Charlie's Drums driven. Charlie is mint. The guy never screws up for crymonys sake. Never. He's a machine.....The dudes amazing man.

There is only one Charles Watts. The Stones could not have a more suited drummer.

Ian

stonedinaustralia tumbling dice - the snap of that snare is the sound of rock and roll

that's why it's the best stones song ever - the brussels ad lib of TD mick actually invokes charlie in the outro - you got to roll me...

JuanTCB I love it when he duels with Keith during the instrumental break in Sparks Will Fly. Keith plays that nasty lick and Charlie answers it with the high-hat. Great moment.

She Was Hot, when he switches to the ride cymbal at the start of the guitar solo.

Neighbors, though, is probably my favorite Charlie drumming ever.

I think the entire Voodoo Lounge album is a Charlie highlight. Glad somebody brought up Sparks Will Fly, I love that track and one of the big reasons is the drumming. I know there is some hate around here for that song, and I have never understood why.

Saint Sway Charlie's finest period was his work from '62 thru '05.

I would say that was his strongest stretch. And the best by any drummer.

I think the major complain is due to the famous "sharks will cry" line.
the rest is ok, great song from a great warm album.

Zeeta What about Where the boys all go?!?!

I swear one can hear the coke rattling off the snare on that one...or is that just me!

He's amazing...see my avatar.

He's the *main* reason I love the Stones so much.

He IS the engine room and without an engine baby you ain't SHIT!

The most serious and talented musician in the Stones...

I would extend it to '06, his shows this year have been great as well. It's not just about the rock, but also the roll...
