From today's NYT:
Even Paul McCartney Offended Somebody
When Sir Paul McCartney was named to perform this year's Super Bowl halftime show, the reasons included a desire to clean the slate after the Janet Jackson breast-baring episode last year - not to mention the desire to avoid aftereffects like the $550,000 fine levied against CBS, which is owned by Viacom, by the Federal Communications Commission.
But there was no way, apparently, to make everybody happy. The F.C.C. received at least 31 complaints about the Super Bowl, the commercials or the halftime show, including two questioning the decency of Sir Paul's performance, within 24 hours of the broadcast.
As Mediaweek.com first reported, the commercial for a Web site registrar called GoDaddy.com that spoofed last year's decency flap topped the initial list of complaints. Eight viewers contacted the commission with objections to its buxom model and her antics before a fictitious Congressional decency committee. Five other viewers complained about commercials for Cialis, the erectile dysfunction treatment whose spots warn about the possibility of rare and dangerous four-hour erections.
. . .
Two viewers complained to the F.C.C. that Sir Paul had stepped over the line when he sang the Beatles classic "Get Back," complete with its references to "California grass."
. . .
***Then again, two other viewers contacted the F.C.C. to complain that Mr. McCartney had simply bored them.***

Well there were actually people years ago who phoned in to the networks to demand that someone actually rescue those poor people stranded on Gilligan's Island.
