I'm a Fulsom Prison man, myself. Can't beat "Five more minutes to go".

You're right, the remasters kick ass, although, curiously, Boy Named Sue is funnier and "naughtier" with the bleeped "Son of a Bitch".

charlotte "Lou Reed - Bowery Ballroom - April 21 & 22, 2003

These two shows at the Bowery Ballroom on the Lower East Side of Manhattan received very little publicity, if any at all. If memory serves me right, these were the first shows where Lou was testing out the band that is essentially his current configuration. (The Kung Fu guy was not a part of this group as of this time.) The set lists show that there were only a few songs different between the two nights, but at least to me, you could notice that each nights performance was slightly different.

For those who don’t know, the Bowery Ballroom is a small place, roughly half of the size of your average high school gymnasium’s basketball court, a stage is at one end, there is a small balcony with a few tables that runs around the three walls opposite the stage. I would say there were no more than 200-300 people in attendance for each of these shows.

Nasty Habits Wow! Charlotte, that stuff sounds COOL.

Hey, Mac Daddy -- I've been meaning to ask you -- do you have anything that has the whole Wailers performance at the Old Grey Whistle Test? I recently saw that Stir It Up on the OGWT DVD and it was one of the greatest things I'd ever seen -- absolutely confirming Peter Tosh's position as the Jamaican Keith Richards.

Apparently not the ideal way to get this stuff (there is a British double Cd version which is allegedly superior) but I saw it on this. Amazing Curtis Mayfield and Bill Withers performances, crap performances by most of the "rock" bands, and killer interviews with the Jag and the Keef (separate, even in '72) about Exile on Main Street (no live footage, though).

Mac_D -- I have the Talking Blues sessions but would love to know what other stuff you gots from the BW PT Wailers -- that band is just slaying me dead right now.

Got the SMiLE vinyl for Christmas and I don't know if someone other than Bob Ludwig mastered the record but the vinyl on that thing is some of the most gorgeous wax I've ever laid ears on. Unbelievable.

Currently: Max Roach -- Members Don't Git Weary.

mac_daddy max roach - i used to know his son darryl. i have some funny stories about that cat, and of course miles...

as for the wailers stuff (the were not bmw until peter and bunny split), i will try and dig up a comprehensive list. i might have a few studio sessions from the era, but mostly i have live gigs (including several at paul's mall in boston). luckily, some of the cats i know who were into taping jerry back in the day also were into the wailers, and ran tape successfully for some of the us gigs. great stuff!!!
