Thanks Mac_D!

Currently: REM -- So Much Younger Then -- Live LP Boot, 1981. They used to be quite the little garagey rock combo. Who'd ever believe in this day and age that REM used to play FAST?

January 18th, 2005 10:01 PM
mac_daddy totally agreeed - rem used to be great. but something happened after life's rich paegant/document. i think they kinda sold out (although i did like green), but their demise can be traced to their bailing on irs - and miles copeland's demise can be traced back to that event, too..

btw, did you know miles is pushing a belly dance show now..? he thinks it will be as big as riverdance - oh, how the mighty have fallen...

currently: the 8 min version of strictly memphis - the one without the slick production sheen. i really like this one (not too fond of the ones on dw sessions v. 1 and 2)

Buddy Guy: Last Time Around Live at Legends
January 18th, 2005 10:16 PM
VoodooChileInWOnderl I had the pleasure to make a very brief interview to Magic Slim when he came here for the annual blues festival, he's a great guy and what a way to close the festival, at the end it was a great gig with many of the key musicians of that day's bill and some of the previous, specially Melvin Taylor and Big Time Sarah

Nasty Habits Strangely enough, a pal of mine who was BIG on that whole Athens scene told me about that recently and sent me a link!

http://www.gildedserpent.com/articles24/milesanswers.htm

I think that Green was their last good album and I have a soft spot for it, too. They started losing me at Automatic and really lost me at Monster. From that point forward I have had a giant question mark over my head about them although I do have a funny story about Michael Stipe busting in on my wife in the ladies room at the vegetarian restaurant next to the Local 506.

I'm actually on a bit of an IRS kick and am listening to side one of the Singles vol. 1 & 2 right now which is rather kicking of ass. ACTION! TIME! VISION!

Hey Voo -- When is that Groundhogs from?

January 18th, 2005 10:46 PM
VoodooChileInWOnderl It's a great 2CD live set from the band's comeback in the early 90s with Tony McPhee doin' a great work

January 18th, 2005 10:55 PM
Nasty Habits Do they whoop holy ass on any of my beloved SPLIT material?

Some Cherry Red perhaps?

January 18th, 2005 11:26 PM
VoodooChileInWOnderl It has a killer version of Split Part 1 and 2
January 18th, 2005 11:27 PM

Dan I just got 33 DVDs in the mail today, right now I am watching Black Sabbath live in Malta 1995 - probably the only gig most of the people in attendance will ever see.

Some of the best bands of the last 10 years opened for the Stones on the Licks tour and none of the fucktards could be bothered...

No but if you have it I will be willing to trade it for the live set I mentioned above
January 19th, 2005 01:20 PM
Dan Not the Groundhogs but I am still seeking opening sets by Therapy? (I have just about every gig they ever did in Belgium except Werchter), White Stripes, ZZ Top, Starsailor(they start to grate on me after the 4th song but I still want it), The Dorkness (same as above), The Hives, and I cant even remember who else. I know No Doubt ATlanta is circulating but I still dont have it. IMHO both T? and The Hives could smoke the STones if they were playing their same tired 19 song stadium set. I already know AC/DC did...

Cant Catch Me Stones -- Beat Beat Beat at the Beeb

Joe Ely Band -- Live Shots

Grace Jones covering Johnny Cash's "Ring of Fire." Bizarre, but works great in an eery way.

Brian Eno and David Byrne -- My Life in the Bush of Ghosts. (Talk about eery, the songs backed with the vocal recordings of a sermon and an excorcism are creepy but cool. BTW, this is about the only post-Heads David Byrne I can stand listening to.)

Cant Catch Me Ya man, mac_daddy, Eno's a genius, and coolly enigmatic too. What amazes me is that he made a string of five flawless albums starting with his first. All five, from "Here Come the Warm Jets" in 1974, followed by "Taking Tiger Mountain By Strategy," then "Another Green World," into "Discreet Music" and "Before And After Science" in 1977, are listening perfection. There aren't many albums that I consider absolutely flawless these days (I used to be more forgiving when I was younger but over time little things stand out on once-perfect albums to annoy me. A bad bit of singing, you know, or a couple of words of stupid lyrics, a solo that's just a little too long.)

And, I complement the discerning tastes of everybody that praised Alex Chilton earlier. He's a real overlooked figure, lost in the shadows of the rock n' roll world. I love the songs, "No Sex" and "Make A Little Love." They're witty and FUN, the last being a quality I enjoy in music.

M.O.W.A.T. Just got a 40GB iPod last week and am in the process of transferring my favourite songs on to it. Put 181 of my favourite Stones songs on it and barely made a dent in the memory. Right now i'm going through boxes of CD's that I haven't listened to in years and ripping favourites to be uploaded to the iPod (which is truly an amazing little machine IMO).

sirmoonie Spinning the following all the time these days:

1. Faces - Five Guys.....GET THE FUCK OUT OF HERE! Super fine! Duh!

Music like this is why its very important to hang around and, if you can, contribute to threads like this. Yeah, I knew who the Faces were, had an album or two that I never listened to, who didn't? I didn't know about the totality of their work like.......GET THE FUCK OUT OF HERE! Fucking incredible! Duh!

2. Hole - Live Through This and Courtney Love's first album. I seldom relate to female singers, and I know Courtney is a loser, but she's singing some killer stuff on these. The lady can rock.

3. Talking Book - S. Wonder

4. Dreams to Remember - Otis Redding Anthology

5. Paul's Boutique - Beastie Boys

6. Who's Next - remasted and Young Vic - GET THE FUCK OUT OF HERE!
