Ten Thousand Motels Blues Legends to Come to New Zealand

Named the "greatest blues guitarist ever" by Eric Clapton, the legendary Buddy Guy along with The Robert Cray Band will be bringing the blues to Aotearoa.

Rock’n’Roll inductee Buddy Guy has been singin’ the blues for nearly four decades. His best-selling albums Damn Right, I've Got The Blues and Slippin’ In earned him Grammy Awards in 1992 and 1996 and he has just released his latest album Bring ‘Em In.

Buddy Guy is renowned for helping move the blues guitar into its post-modern era. His playing is legendary, and few blues musicians today can match Guy's ability to make a guitar solo the quintessential blues statement.

Joining Buddy Guy for this one-off concert is Robert Cray, considered to be one of the most expressive vocalists and impressive guitarists on the contemporary Rhythm and Blues scene. In 2005, The Robert Cray Band notched up their 1000th gig with the band's current line-up and released their latest album, Twenty, engineered by Grammy-winning engineer Don Smith (The Rolling Stones, Ry Cooder, Miles Davis).

Both artists are celebrated for their dynamic performances. Guy has astounded audiences worldwide with his masterful guitar playing and his electrifying stage presence. He gives a glimpse into the wellspring of his rousing performances when he says "It's the blues that keeps you young. When you stretch that string, you're stretchin' your life." The Robert Cray Band are just as alluring as they explore compelling routes on the musical map, always delighting and surprising audiences.

Buddy Guy and The Robert Cray Band will be bringing these phenomenal performances to New Zealand fans in a one-off show on 22 April 2006 at Auckland’s St James.
