Struggling Krispy Kreme plans on laying off about 125 workers
CHARLOTTE, N.C. - Krispy Kreme Doughnuts says the company is laying off a quarter of its workforce at its North Carolina headquarters and some other key facilities.
The company says about 125 workers were told they would be laid off.
The struggling snack food maker also plans cuts at plants where doughnut mix is made, equipment is manufactured and doughnuts are distributed.
Krispy Kreme says it expects the cuts will mean annual pre-tax savings of nearly $7.5 million.
The company will also take a cash restructuring charge of about $600,000 in the first quarter.
The once high-flying doughnut maker also says it is selling its corporate jet for about $30 million.
