beer She's So Cold (Jagger/Richards)

I'm so hot for her, I'm so hot for her
I'm so hot for her and she's so cold
I'm so hot for her, I'm on fire for her
I'm so hot for her and she's so cold

I'm the burning bush, I'm the burning fire
I'm the bleeding volcano
I'm so hot for her, I'm so hot for her
I'm so hot for her and she's so cold

Yeah, I tried re-wiring her, tried re-firing her
I think her engine is permanently stalled
She's so cold she's so cold
She's so cold cold cold
Like a tombstone
She's so cold, she's so cold
she's so cold cold cold like an ice cream cone
She's so cold she's so cold
I when I touch her my hand just froze

Yeah, I'm so hot for hot for her, I'm so hot for her
I'm so hot for her and even so,
Put your hand on the heat, put your hand on the heat
Aw C'mon baby, let's go

She's so cold, she's so cold, cold, she's so c-c-c-old
But she's beautiful, though

Yeah, she's so cold

She's so cold, she's so cold
She was born in an arctic zone
She's so cold she's so cold, cold, cold
I dare not touch her my hand just froze

She's so cold, she's so goddamn cold she's so
Cold cold cold she's so cold

Who would believe you were a beauty indeed
When the days get shorter and the nights get long
Lie awake when the rain comes
Nobody will know, when you're old
When you're old, nobody will know
that you was a beauty, a sweet sweet beauty
A sweet sweet beauty, but stone stone cold

You're so cold, you're so cold, cold, cold
You're so cold, you're so cold

I'm so hot for you, I'm so hot for you
I'm so hot for you and you're so cold

I'm the burning bush, I'm the burning fire
I'm the bleeding volcano

Grateful Well, I have a hard time believing it's "and even so". t doesn't sound like it on the album nor when sung live, and that doesn't make much sense.

And "Lie awake when the rain comes" makes no sense either nor sounds right.

I think they're wrong... unless someone could explain them to me.

Highwire Rob I love this song! The Stones build an infectious bass rhythm and precise words to match. It looks to me like Beer has the exact lyrics.

I think the even so part is one verse (unlike the others) that is intended to be logically split so each thought connects to the refrain:

Yeah, I'm so hot for hot for her, I'm so hot for her
I'm so hot for her and even so,
--->[refrain: She's so cold]
Put your hand on the heat, put your hand on the heat
Aw C'mon baby, let's go
--->[refrain: She's so cold]

As for night fades and the rain comes, it suggests not just the rainy season when the days get shorter and the nights get long but also the autumn years of a whole life. Mick seems to suggest that the presently cold woman--the object of unrequited passion--will someday find herself face-to-face with lost youth, much less attention from others, and thoughts of what-might-have-been.

This is such a great song because it's like Mick's rock contribution to carpe diem (seize the day) poetry. In the same vein as Housman's, "Loveliest of Trees, the Cherry Now;" or Robert Herrick's (1591-1674), "To the Virgins to Make Much of Time":

Gather ye rosebuds while ye may,
Old Time is still a-flying:
And this same flower that smiles to-day
To-morrow will be dying.

The glorious lamp of heaven, the sun,
The higher he's a-getting,
The sooner will his race be run,
And nearer he's to setting.

That age is best which is the first,
When youth and blood are warmer;
But being spent, the worse, and worst
Times still succeed the former.

Then be not coy, but use your time,
And while ye may, go marry:
For having lost but once your prime,
You may for ever tarry.

Three-hundred-and-fifty years later, SHE'S STILL SO GOD'DAMN COLD!!!!

Mathijs "Lie Awake" should be: "When the night fades and the rain comes"

Grateful Thanks Mathijs! I'm sure you're correct (I knew I heard an "F" in there). Usually if something doesn't sound right in a song, nor make sense - it's usually wrong. But I believe it's just "Night fades and the rain comes".

Now, how about the first one? (The cream so/even so thing).

Boomhauer JUST PLAY IT LIVE!

gypsymofo60 Well I always sang "creamy foam"....."When the light fades." Like Mick said along time ago, the lyrics should neverbe sung too clearly...

This post deserves some kind of Nolte.

For more on the life of this stupid girl (and to provide the lyrical bridge between poets Jagger and Herrick) I would reference Wynonie Harris' "Sittin' on It All The Time". Here's what she does when she's old, when she's old . . .

"Old Maid Old Maid Stop Acting Like A Baby Child
Old Maid Old Maid Stop Acting Like A Baby Child
You Waited Til You Got 63
Before You Started Runnin Wild

Oh, I'm Lookin For A Gal She's Got To Be Young And Neat
Yeah, I'm Lookin For A Gal She's Got To Be Young And Neat
What Good Is A Stove If It Don't Put Out No Heat

Well You Had Your Chance For Love And Romance
But You Let It Pass You By
'Cause When You Were 10 You Used To Run From Men
Kept On Sittin On It All The Time

When You Was 15 You Was A Natural Queen
Kept On Sittin On It All The Time

When You Were 22 You Didn't Know What To Do
When You Was 25 You Thought About That Jive
Kept On Sittin On It All The Time
Kept On Sittin On It All The Time

When You Was 31 You Was Hot As The Sun,
You Kept On Sittin On It All The Time

When You Were 35 You Were Glad To Be Alive
When You Were 38 Still Wasn't Too Late
Kept On Sittin On It All The Time
Kept On Sittin On It All The Time

When You Were 44 Men Were Still Knockin On Your Door
Kept On Sittin On It All The Time

When You Were 49 You Changed Your Mind
When You Were 52 You Still Knew What To Do
Kept On Sittin On It All The Time
Kept On Sittin On It All The Time

Now You're 63 You're Too Old For Me,
So Keep On Sittin On It All The Time."

Ta-dah.

Coy mistresses, man.

Nasty, that is a great "bridge" poem by Harris. Thanks for posting it. I'll be looking for a Nolte nomination--my first--at the end of the year! lol

We have the beginnings of a thesis and web credit course on poetry & Stones lyrics...

Nasty Habits Mr. Harris was a master of sensitive poetry.

His sonnets include the lovely "Keep on Churning 'Til the Butter Comes".

StrangeStrayCat I've always heard ...

"I'm so hot for her and cream so" ... as in, he creams so much. We know it's not the first time he would have used the "cream" verb.

This takes me back to my ultra-geek days in the late '80's. I undertook a project to write out the lyrics of every Stones song. Hey, this was before search engines
