Topic: Rolling Stones - Star Wars connection question Return to archive

Monkey Woman I already asked this question elsewhere with no result. So I'm trying again, in hope someone else noticed it and maybe knows more on the subject.

Here it is. Since I saw the film Performance, I've been wondering about a tentative Rolling Stones - Star Wars connection.
During a scene in Performance, the pop star Turner (played by Mick) is working in his home studio, composing on a synthetiser and looking for inspiration. At a moment, he plays with what looks like a lit neon tube, wielding it like a sword and mock-stabbing his guest with it.
So I'm really wondering... Doesn't this remind someone else a little bit about laser sabers???

George Lucas must have seen this film, it's a cult classic. And we know he was a cinematographer for the Maysles Gimme Shelter documentary, as shown on the credits. So he may have been interested in seeing more about the British pop star Mick Jagger. And Performance was released in 1970, after GS. So I'm just curious...

Monkey Woman Ah yes, didn't think of that forum. Thanks for pointing it out, egon. I guess it's a discussion best suited to a Star Wars forum, anyway.

M.O.W.A.T. Yes there definitely is a Rolling Stones-Star Wars connection.

George Lucas was a cinematographer on the Maysles "Gimme Shelter" movie.

prism Mick Jagger recorded some solo songs at George Lucas' ranch in northern California in the late 1980's.
