NEW YORK FASHION WEEK
On The Catwalk: the romance and femininity that took over the spring/summer 2004 catwalks is expected to stick around when the sun goes in next autumn. Flirty, floaty and sexy will remain the orders of the day and there will still be plenty of prints to choose from.
A record 170 shows will be presented in the four tents in Bryant Park this season. Previously the event filled only three tents.
While nobody quite knows which models will take to the catwalk until almost the last minute, Tony Melillo is thought to have persuaded rock chicsters Elizabeth Jagger and Theodora and Alexandra Richards to catwalk for him.
In The Front Rows: It'll be as A-list as ever this season: Mary Louise Parker, Iman, Harry Connick Jr, Bjork, Sarah Jessica Parker, Daryl Hannah and David Blaine are all expected to make an appearance, while Boy George has promised to give a live commentary on the catwalk of the Heatherette show.
After Hours: New York becomes party central from tonight, with extravagant soirees planned by the likes of Belgian designer Raf Simmons, Patricia Field and Zac Posen, Issey Miyake, Yohji Yamamoto and Paco Rabanne designer Rosemary Rodriguez. The festivities will kick off tonight when Olympus will throw open the doors of Spice to make its first stand as title sponsor of the week. Valentino is rumoured to have sent out 2000 invitations for a dinner party to celebrate his RED diffusion line, while London designer Kim Jones will play host at hip nightspot Marquee at a party to launch his collaboration with Umbro. Carolina Herrera, meanwhile, will have the fashion pack in black tie for the launch of her new mens fragrance, Chic for Men, on Thursday night. And the highlight? Everybody who is anybody will be at the Louis Vuitton flagship launch party to raise a glass and celebrate the label's 150th birthday.
Word On The Street: And what will they be talking about, as they peruse the latest offerings from some of the world's finest fashion designers? Oscar de la Renta's new diffusion line maybe… a new licensing deal with Kellwood Co will launch in the autumn and is touted to be Oscar-elegant but with "two or three zeros" off the price tag. Or perhaps Tom Ford's latest accolade will be top of the gossip agenda. Word has it that the Gucci and YSL Rive Gauche designer, who will retire from both catwalks officially in April, will be the next honoree of the Rodeo Drive Walk of Style. It would put him one step closer to the Hollywood career that he is thought to be planning next.
