Topic: Mac on Billy Bragg and the Blokes LP, 'England, Half English' Return to archive
01-25-02 03:27 PM
CS BRAGG: ENGLAND FOR THE ENGLISH
And the Welsh. And the Martians...
24.jan.02

PlayLouder is as pleased as a particularly self-satisfied
punch to announce the release of the debut Billy Bragg
and the Blokes LP, 'England, Half English', out on March
4th through Cooking Vinyl. Sweeeeet.

To wet the proverbial whistle, a double A side single,
'England, Half English'/'St. Monday' comes out on
February 18th. Glad are we.

Anyway, this is Sir Bragg's first full set of new material
since 1996's 'William Bloke', which was ace, and had the
sublime 'Brickbat' on it, oh yes. After that came 'Mermaid
Avenue', volumes one and two, which the critics loved
massively. As did we.

Those aforementioned Blokes, by the way, are the
legendary Ian McLagan - of Small Faces, Bob Dylan, The
Faces and Rolling Stones fame - on Hammond organ
and piano, Ben Mandelson (lap steel guitar); Lu
Edmonds (electric guitar and vocals); Martyn Barker
(drums); and Simon Edwards (bass). Neato.

As if that weren't enough, the band are touring
throughout march, at the following dens of iniquity:
