When Queen Elizabeth and her fellow
citizens celebrate her 50th year as monarch
this June, the Queen's Golden Jubilee will
be rocking. A number of Britain's top
rockers, including Paul McCartney, Eric
Clapton, and Mick Jagger, have already
signed on to take part in an evening of
rock'n'roll that will take place on the lawn
of Buckingham Palace, according to
sources.
Tickets will be doled out by raffle. Among the American
musical royalty tentatively slated to participate are Aretha
Franklin and Stevie Wonder. Sir George Martin is musical
director of the overall event, which also includes a classical
evening, while Phil Ramone and Michael Kamen are also
expected to have musical responsibilities. The concerts will be
broadcast on the BBC.
The shows won't be the only musical extravaganzas happening
in the U.K. that month. The Isle of Wight Festival, which was
last staged in 1970, will return on June 3 with a lineup likely to
include the Strokes, the Charlatans, Manic Street Preachers,
and Pulp, according to reports. An official announcement is
expected in the coming weeks.

Sounds like a party. But what if Dylan were invited too?
He could sing Rainy Day Women # what ever and dedicate it to Prince Harry...LOL...
(I never could figure out who "they" were/are in the lyrics of that tune...) |

"They" are critics, doubters, establishment - anyone who is perceived to be 'against' the writer - and in 1966,Bob had a long queue of them...!! the "stoning" is a metaphor for the Biblical method of execution
Nearly everyone seems to just pigeonhole it as a "drug song" because they just think of the line "everybody must get stoned" and ignore the rest of the lyrics. Its not really - Bob just uses that one line as a kind of double entendre/metaphor to emphasise that all of us get attacked or shit on every so often.
To get back to the original thread..Mick playing at a Royal party in June? I'll believe it when I see it. If so,hes REALLY angling for that knighthood! |

Any chance of The Sex Pistols reforming and do a repeat of the Queen's Silver Jubilee on the river? |

Even though I can't necessarily disagree with Gazza, I've kind of developed a fondness for the "pigeonhole interpretation" lol.

To get back to the original thread - theres been quite a bit in the UK press in the last 48 hours about the plans for the Queens Jubilee and I've seen quite a few references to the proposed line up for this "concert" - and Mick Jagger is suddenly quite conspiciuous by his absence from the list of artists expected to appear at this show..
maybe it was wishful thinking on the promoter's behalf..or else Keef has had a quiet word in his ear... |
