I saw The Who at the London Forum a couple of years back. They played there as warm-up to they're series of gigs at the Royal Albert Hall. I think the venue has a capacity of around 3,000.
Anyone here been to a Who gig as intimate as that?
PLEASE say you haven’t!

Indeed! I was on my way to work and there was a TINY article about it in the Sun newspaper. Blink, and you'd have missed it. I searched for the band on Ticketmaster and that was it. It was a great gig and Pete was on fire. He has so much energy, way more than Keith or Ronnie. What was wonderful about the gig for me was how RELAXED and casual it all was. They just strolled on and started playing. No big intros, no nonsense whatsoever. |

" The American part of the tour, probably in three - or even four - legs, happens from September to December. We go on to the rest of the world in 2007. There will be a new CD sometime in the early summer. I know I've cried wolf a few times, but this time I have committed because I have about enough music for a new CD, and I'm still producing. Also, Rachel has agreed to come for the entire tour and do In The Attic before every show. This will prevent me becoming bored." "

No. I think what it had to do with -- and to be honest [laughs], I can't remember much about any of it -- was to do with the fact that I was actually completely smashed out of my head. I'm fifty-seven, I've got a young girlfriend, I'm not gay. I'm not interested in men. I don't think I ever really have been. I've had a high sex drive all my life, which has actually been difficult sometimes to reconcile with some of my spiritual aspirations, which are just like, you know, a monk, I suppose. But, no, I think it would have been because I was completely off my face with something. If you want to talk about this, and Danny's the one that's gone into print . . . [loudly] if Danny fucked me, Danny drugged me first. So if you want to fucking print that, then print it. Because that's the truth. It fucking hurts, that he so fucking carelessly said this in the papers. He should have fucking told me what he did to me first.

No, I don't give a damn! But to actually say that we were boyfriend and girlfriend! Boyfriend and boyfriend. I don't know what he's fucking talking about. [Louder] And this is it. This is the fucking thing that stinks about this whole fucking thing of doing a fucking interview with fucking Rolling Stone magazine in the first place when I don't need to! I don't need the magazine, I don't need you. . . . The tour is sold-out. I don't want to talk about my work, I don't want to talk about the Who, I don't want to talk about any of this shit. But you go and you talk about it, because it seems the polite thing to do. [Shouts] Live in the real fucking world! Live in the real fucking world! . . . I just don't know what Danny is talking about. I know that I spent a night in his house. I don't remember much else about it. You know, I did not go out with him. He is not my type.

No, but I saw Daltrey perform "Behind Blue Eyes" at the Grand Opera House in Belfast (capacity about 1,100) with the Chieftains for a "St Patricks Day" TV special for American TV (which was somewhat surreal as the show was filmed in August!). It had been announced in the local press that a certain Charles Watts was also to appear, so you can imagine my disgust when the show ended and there was no sign of him (he wasnt even mentioned on the night or in the press the next day!)
My first Who show was a little less intimate than yours, Alex. Hyde Park 1996, the "Mastercard Masters of Music Concert for the Princes Trust" in front of 150,000 people!!
(Dylan, Clapton and Alanis Morrissette were also on the bill and Ronnie Wood played with Dylan. The Who performed Quadrophenia with many special guests including David Gilmour and er...Gary Glitter....Daltrey wore a 'mod target' eye patch as Glitter had almost decapitated him with a mike stand when rehearsing "The Punk and the Godfather" the day before..). Parts of the show were broadcast on Sky and on HBO. ticket price (get this ) = £8.50!
saw the Who again in Birmingham in June 2004 - 6th floor at an arena show. They were brilliant. Never seen anyone play guitar as great as Townshend did that night. he was unbelievable. |

Well, it's only fair! You were lucky enough to catch the Stones at Shepard’s Bush and the Astoria! You'd probably gasp in amazement and I know I raved about the gig earlier, but I remember coming away from it a little disappointed. I guess I just didn't know what to expect. I guess after seeing the Stones play in seated venues and then the Who in a theatre, kind of made me realise how uncomfortable those venues can be. Don't get me wrong, I've been to loads of theatre style gigs, but The Who were on stage for about two hours and coupled with heat and tiredness, I felt pretty drained by the end. I'm glad the Stones insist on playing football stadiums and arenas. It's so much reserved and relaxing! |

As much as i was blown away by there 2004 show here, i think its time to pack up the amps, retire, and write an autobiography.
And, in Pete's case, surf the net all day.
Hey, all right! Pete Townshend child porn jokes! I've never heard any of those before. You guys are just the best.
