Jumacfly Brilliant guitarist.

Bruno Stone His version to Little Wing is killer.

Make It Funky It may depend on the date/era of the maeterial you have. If its up to 1986, you'll have the wild, raw, coked out incredibly sponteneous playing with Double Trouble.

If you have a later version, late 80s, where he got clean, he's also included a keyboard player named Reese Wayans, and its quite good. Ofcourse then, he ultimately added horns to his live sound. (ala Carnegie Hall).

If you recall, it is SRV playing all the licks on Bowie's Let's Dance album (China Girl, Modern Love, Let's Dance) and toured wiht him as well.

There isnt going to be a single bad track with SRV. Each song he plays like its his last live performance on earth.

Cheers!

Saint Sway "Tough Enough" was a great song
January 25th, 2006 01:14 PM
Lil Brian A few SRV boots worth checking out: Force of Nature I & II, In Memorium, Montreaux Jazz, Stilleto Rain, Cold Shot, The House is Rockin', Mr. Clean, Mega Rare Tracks. There are many other good sbd and ex aud recordings in circulation too. He smokes on 'em all!

So far ive heard some live, studio and acoustic tracks, so I'm not sure which era this is, there is no album name unfortunately, it could be a best of.

Just heard Testify (acooustic), brilliant.

So you were living on some other planet in the 1980s?

No, I was born in 1983, so my musical intake was limited to Michael Jackson, Dire Straits, and Bob Marley.

Well, Dire Straits and Marley are cool.

Anyway, some of these were mentioned, but I recommend at least:

Texas Flood
Couldn't Stand the Weather
Live At The El Mocambo
Live at Carnegie Hall
Austin City Limits video

Then get:

The Sky Is Crying
In Step
(The Vaughan Brothers) Family Style
(Jimmie Vaughan) Strange Pleasure

Happy blues listening!

nanatod I saw SRV in Chicago during the tour he did with Jeff Beck.
He was terrific, and even dueted with Beck on a version of Beck's "Goin Down."

The one song he did not do that was notable in its absence was "Willie the Wimp." Maybe SRV was scared to do it, as the person the song was based on was the late son of the late Chicago businessman and gangster, Flukey Stokes.

Jumping Jack A funny song, but Willie the Wimp is one of my favorites!
February 1st, 2006 11:26 AM
nanatod "A funny song"

It wasn't necessarily supposed to be funny. Mr. Stokes's son was buried in an fancy casket, allegedly similar to the one that was set forth in the song.

I kick myself in the ass for not getting that recording of Beck and SRV that was only available through Fender! Damn!
