If I get a stand-alone dvd burner, can I copy dvd to dvd? Or, will I only be able to run vhs to dvd??
Actually, any info. on stand alone dvd burners is appreciated. TIA! |

With standalone DVD burners you lose a generation with each copy. I wouldn't recommend it. I don't trade with people who use them if I can help it. |

but they can't handle copy protected dvd's, which is pretty much every dvd you buy...?
better to do your burning on a pc, so you can get round these protections with programs like dvd shrink.
only reason to buy a standalone is when you want to record from tv.
in that case buy the dvd+ format (not dvd-) as it is better compatible & more popular.
one with a harddrive in it is quite nice;
you record on the drive 1st and then decide what you want to burn to dvd. (of course we talk extra dollars here)
if you can wait a while, do so. prices keep dropping and more and more sound/picture systems (dvd, divx, SACD, dolby, digital etc etc) are being intergrated into 1 machine. |
