Topic: Spamming and Spybots - it's getting out of control! Return to archive
24th January 2007 11:05 PM
Bitch Recently every time I'm online there are dozens of spammers, spyware, spybots, and junk email, adware, and all sorts of shit. It takes an hour to unsubscribe and delete and run the virus scanner! Is it worse than ever, the free offers for ipods, laptops, gift cards, free anything you can think of!

But if you click on one of them you get a million more that come back to you in different forms. It's crazy, it's out of control!
24th January 2007 11:07 PM
Nellcote Sounds like you need a pop up blocker?
24th January 2007 11:45 PM
glencar Lately whenever I click on a youtube video, my Netscape closes. I've been reduced to using IE which sucks. Virus? I do have Norton...

Fiji Joe Anyone else get bombarded with those investment tips disguised as everything under the sun?...was reading on that...stuff comes out of russia and there is like no way to stop it...I get about 5 a day...it's all enough to start another cold war

Then don't subscribe in the first place. And don't use your regular email account. If you didn't subscribe to something in the first place, don't click the unsubscribe link in an email because that way you confirm your address as valid and it will get mre and more spam. And don't set you email as catch-all if possible.

MRD8 Google these two utilities: Spybot-Search & Destroy and Ad-Aware...you can download them for free no trial period...they are updated once a week...run them one after the other and they will not only take them off your computer but will also block the sites that send them to you...I hope this helps you out!

Bitch Very interesting feedback, thanks guys. So are you saying that by unsubscribing to emails what I am actually doing is giving out my email addy to more of these types of places? Because I get every email in the world it seems, maybe this is why. I thought unsubscribe meant I WONT get more emails, what a joke!

Stones Security I'll tell you what is out of control is these sicko scientists messing with donuts.

DURHAM. N.C. (AP) - That cup of coffee just not getting it done anymore? How about a Buzz Donut or a Buzzed Bagel? That's what Doctor Robert Bohannon, a Durham, North Carolina, molecular scientist, has come up with. Bohannon says he's developed a way to add caffeine to baked goods, without the bitter taste of caffeine. Each piece of pastry is the equivalent of about two cups of coffee.

While the product is not on the market yet, Bohannon has approached some heavyweight companies, including Krispy Kreme, Dunkin' Donuts and Starbucks about carrying it.

Cocaine Eyes You need Norton/Symantec and get the one with fraud control. Make sure your junk filter automatically empties out once per day. I have that and I'm not bothered at all. The Norton thing comes with a pop-up blocker. Now, I never get pop-ups.
Good luck!

yes, you get more...
I'm also glad I got a Mac, it's like have diplomatic immunity on the internet... my email still gets spammed, but I have a junk folder, so I never have to swim through it, it just goes there. 1 in every 100 or so get through, no big deal. See if you have a spam guard on your email, not seeing spam in your mail is a big help.

crb69 Spywareblaster works well at immunizing the pc as well...link found through Spybot S&D.

Yahoo Mail has a good bulk mail system. I get about 100 spam mails every few days, and maybe one or two go through to my main inbox. I just then hit "report as spam" if I don't just delete them outright.

Yeah...your debut post is in this thread...

If you're going to do the alter ego thing, at least have enough patience to build up some good faith before you attack the people for which you created the alter ego in the first place...at this rate, you'd be better off just bringing that goat back
