Topic: Las Vegas--Any suggestions? Return to archive

LadyJane My fellow Stonesians!

Hubby and I are heading out on a major Stones adventure. We are going to Vegas with RS.COM travel package. We'll only be in town for the weekend.

Friday night, we have a welcome party (6-8)at the Monte Carlo and Saturday night is the concert. Highlight of the trip is the chance to attend Sound Check. I won't believe it until I'm in the MGM Grand watching the band warm up.

I've never been to Sin City, so any suggestions re:
Where to find the band?
Cool casinos to check out?
Where to find the Shidoobeans?
Any of you going?
How to smuggle camera into venue?

Needless to say a full report and, hopefully, pictures will be provided to Rocks Off.

Any input would be appreciated!!

LadyJ.

parmeda My suggestions:

1. Bring cash...and, a lot of it!
2. Don't plan on sleeping...you can do that at home.
3. If you get drunk and stupid make sure there are NO cams or videos nearby....Nanky will be sure to find evidence and POST IT!
4. Go with the flow and have a GREAT time!
01-27-03 12:43 PM
Highwire Rob It's my understanding that meals should be fairly inexpensive around the casinos. I hear there are some great breakfasts to be had for just a couple dollars.

Don't over-tip.

And don't get caught dead with Stones clothing on in the Liberace Museum!
01-27-03 12:54 PM
LadyJane These are very good suggestions, thank you!

HRob-I doubt I'll be at the Liberace museum, but thanks for the tip.

Parm-Don't know about lots of cash (40 Licks has rendered me VERY BROKE, but I will watch out for the video cams. What about cameras? You got such great shots in Chicago!!

jb Pam...Stonesdoug is about as nice a guy as you could ever meet....truly the greatest Stonesfan on all of these sites...Some of the people on his board are really a little sensitive, but the many I met at Walters(with the exception of a couple of serious losers)were great....Pam..lets make a deal to meet at next falls MSG concert!!!
01-27-03 02:45 PM
LadyJane OMG! The final show, the Last Supper!

I hope my room isn't on a high floor and/or has a balcony.

Calling on all Aussie and European fans to make a solemn vow to keep us updated!!

LadyJ.

01-27-03 02:58 PM
LadyJane Just hooked up with Doug via e-mail. I felt like I was talking to royalty. He does seem to be the Ultimate Stones Fan. And very, very nice.

Somehow, this very cold Winter day is turning much brighter!

My new mantra: MSG in the Fall, MSG in the Fall.....

jb Look..it may or maynot happen(the concert)...but I have to buy pairs anyway, and y0u've been about the only one here who has been consistently cordial, polite, and good humored about my posts..whether you disagreed or not....you have been very tolerant....It's the least i could do...and truthfully, I am expecting to have a seroius $$$$ year!!!LOL
Anyway, we will talk privately .....

parmeda jb...if the boys make a "once around" before hanging up the guitars, I'm sure they'll make a pit-stop here in Chicago (wishful thinking!). And if so...you'll have to come here! It's a lot less crazier than NYC (no offense to my NY friends ).

We'll talk...

Bluzian My Dear L.J.:

Having just got back from L.V. recently (and stayed at MGM)
I have to tell you, it's an amazing place!!! The Stones
will definetely stay there, in the penthouse suites; (which
is a separate elevator shaft that goes up to floor 26) where
the traditional shaft for laymen only goes to 25. Their
"preferred" entrance should be the sidedoor, inbetween
MGM and Polo Towers. There is what you would call "The Mansion"
which is a totally detached residence on the property. Most
likely where the likes of Elton John etc stay, but I doubt
it would work in Stones-land, b/c, there would be fight in
who would get to stay there? (Mick? Chuck? Michael Cohl?)
So I would be GLUED to that entrance if I were you. And there
is a back-hallway taht goes behind the frontdesk/casino that
is not publically accessible, but I am sure it would be
used for celebrities avoiding the masses.. but that doorway
is the key L.J.!!! I can not for the life of me seeing them
entering into the main lobby. It's a heat score.

If you are interested in catching the sound-check, you might
want to go 'round the back of the hotel, (where they are
tearing down the old amusement park) and there is relatively
lax security back there.. The odds are pretty good. (this
ofcourse is AFTER you ask Mick for his autograph at the side
door).

I think during their "off" hours, you could quite possibly
see them in the shops that lead up to MGM Garden. MGM is
massive. Be sure to check out the poolyard and lounge area.
It's A-MUST!!!

I was quite keen on the HardRockCafe hotel & Casino on
Paradise Blvd. bit of a walk from MGM, but, not impossible.
When I was there, the main Stones exhibit was the cream
colored suit Mick Jagger wore during his 1967 drug bust
with Robert Fraser. (and looks like it would fit a twelve
year old boy, he must have been EVEN THINNER back in the day?!)

The Liberace Museum is a bit morbid.. I liked it though..
the dinner buffet at MGM was fucking WICKED!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
The buffet at LUXOR was fucking wicked too!!! hehehe
I highly recommend seeing Mandalay Bay, Bellagio and THE
VENETIAN!!! Ceasars is great.

FYI: You don't need to gamble and you won't even have time
to gamble. You won't get any sleep either, cos' these
hotels tend to emit negative ions in the room (fresh
oxygen) that will keep you awake, to keep you gambling.
You should bring some money.. there are so many nice
things and souvenirs you shouldn't pass up on. And I
think tipping is REQUIRED, so be prepared. The whole
town is "hospitality based", and these people who work
the service industry RELY and DEPEND on your tips. So
tip accordingly, but not extravagantly. Last but not
least, different pairs of shoes. You will be walking
alot. (Especially doing the Happy Hour casino crawl ;-)

PS: Have fun!!! Las vegas is amazing!! Everyone is so fucking
friendly down there, you wont want to leave and you will
want to come back ASAP!!! Say hi to Mick for me!

01-28-03 09:33 AM
LadyJane Bluzian!!

Can I take you along as my tour guide?!! Thanks you sooo much for the info on the MGM. This is exactly the information I need.

Last night I was jotting down a few "must see" places. All of a sudden, a lightning bolt hit. My inner voice said, "What are thinking? You must stake out the MGM, period."

This is a Stones journey. We'll only be in town from Fri. afternoon to Sun. afternoon. Time is not on my side. Must save major sightseeing for another time!

LadyJ.
