Everyone can serve as a judge - and like Gazza said, the question is being an icon, not most creative, talanted, original, influencing, etc. - but personally I am very amazed of the criteria that can put Elvis to no. 2 in any show business list as far an iconic status is concerned. Also the biggest pop star of the 80's, and the biggest iconic representative of the MTV era, and one of the most famous human being on Earth, Michael Jackson, is rated only #41. James Brown, the face of black music during the 60's and the 70's, is rated only #48 (but still winning one iconic faces of the 60's, Jim Morrison). And one could ask, like Jagger did in Live Aid, "Okay guys, Where's TINA?!".

All this is, of course, subjective, but what is really the purpose of these kind of lists? What do they serve for?

Mick is well respected in the States compared to the paltry treatment he is given by the British public. This poll amply illustrates their disdain for the greatest icon ever in rock......the simple fact is, yes, Mickis more respected even in Florida, than his native land......>

glencar Joshy is correct. Mick would be higher than Keith in a US version of this list. And Chris Martin wouldn't be found on it.

Zeeta Utter bollocks -

Kiss are the biggest and most respected band in the States Gene Simmons would be higher on the list.

Admittedly Chris Martin shouldn't be on the list but if in states then there would probably be some hack from Linkin' Park or other contemporary pop act.

Jagger was also knighted by HRH!

Don't know where you get yer info from but it's shite...

glencar Linkin Park? LOL Nope. That's shiite. Our list would be crawling with the elder staesmen of rawk. One or two new ones would be added. But I doubt anyone from Linkin Park would make the list.

Cant Catch Me Kansas City is a pretty cool city and, in addition to BBQ, is a hotbed for jazz and the blues. It's where Charlie Parker played in the beginning of his career, and he may have even grown up there. And, I can't remember specifically, but wasn't Lester Young from around there too?

Bloozehound And just where the fuck is Thor on this list?!? He's the icon to end all icons! Any list without the mighty Thor at the top is uncredible and totally jive!

It's like criminal and shit!

Thor! Thor! Thor!
