Topic: Rage Against The Machine To Reunite Return to archive
22nd January 2007 11:56 PM
Spru I came across this at ultimate-guitar.com and hadn't seen it here, so I figured I'd post it for anyone interested:

Rage Against The Machine, the seminal L.A. band that made heavy music into political manifesto, will reunite after a seven-year lull for one show as the headliners at the 2007 Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival, the Los Angeles Times reported.

Sources say Rage, which played the main stage at the first Coachella in 1999, will be joined by other familiar faces for the eighth edition of the festival, which covers three days this year and begins April 27: Red Hot Chili Peppers, which headlined in 2003, are back, as is Björk, who topped the bill in 2002.

It's not clear which day Rage or the other acts were slotted to play; that announcement is expected in the next few days. Other acts expected in the eclectic lineup: Arcade Fire, Interpol, Willie Nelson, the Roots, Manu Chao, the Decemberists, Arctic Monkeys, Sonic Youth, Crowded House, Air, Tiësto and Kings Of Leon.

Rage, which broke through in 1992 with the defiant single "Killing in the Name," won fans across the social spectrum with singer Zack de la Rocha's rap-based lyrics backed by the band's hard-rock melodies. They topped the U.S. pop album charts in 1996 with "Evil Empire" and in 1999 with "The Battle of Los Angeles."

Jumacfly Fantastic news. Audioslave was a big joke( even if I love Cornell's voice),and Zack was seriously missed by the fans.

we got to take the power back!!

Angiegirl Why can't band just stay broken up these days??? Organising a big farewell tour (Pumpkins), tickets of last show 'ever' 2000-3000 dollars each on black market. And a few years later they're back. Great to see RATM back anyway. Fuck you .

At least the Stones never announced their farewell tour. But then again they charge the other's black market prices themselves.

glencar This news underwhelms me...

nanatod glencar, think of it this way:

Just as one could say that the Black Crowes catalog is a modern expansion of the ideas and music in Honky Tonk Woman, the Rage Against the Machine catalog is a modern expansion of the ideas and music of Street Fighting Man.

Although RATM's politics may not align with yours, I'd bet you'd have no problem with their rhythms and beats.

Dan They were one of the most amazing bands ever back in the club days prior to the release of their first album but not as good in a huge field.

I just stumbled across a heartbreaking flier last week - Tool and Rage Against The Machine at Club With No Name for $8 in early 1992. I didn't go because I didn't have the money.

Wow, you must have a real bump on year head from hitting it against the wall when you saw that flyer, lol. These two bands, all raw and young, 15 years ago in a club? Amazing to be able to look back on that show! I've seen both bands live several times, from about '95 onwards, but never together though.
