I like two versions in particular: 1) the live version on Blind date revisited (1979), a very raw almost punky version and 2) the version they played on the SteelWheels/Urban Jungle tour: very tight, a good swing and a nice (synthesizer I guess) harmonica. The last years Miss You is played too long-winded and too smooth. But in fact it's a great song. |

Yes its a great song,i would prefer miss you rather than
Lars or angie.Best versions of miss you 1982 european
tour. |

the 1978 versions, they where long but very funky |

1978 tour are the best versions
Since about 1994, its been a waste of time for the most part, never more so than the "War and Peace"-length versions on the "Bridges" tour.
Good raw version on the b-stage at Giants tho in 2002...almost 1978-like. |

hmm 78 was great,but i think(to me)in 82 it hit the groove.
You know hot summer nights, and wymans bass pumping up and'down...i dont know, but 82 had that feel for me. |

Best one I've come by is also from '78, on Lacerated at the Coctail Party. Great sound and performance, totally Respectable...even though Miss You never was a fav. of mine it does sound great in '78. Does anyone know if Handsome Girls features the same cuts ? |

I don't like the song very much, but they did a great version of it on the VL tour in Hanover, Germany. The crowd went mad after the song and kept on singing so loudly that the band started the song again and added an extra two minute jam with lots of singing along. That was awesome and one of these magic moments that makes every single Stones show a very special one. |

Wow, WahWah, that is cool!!
Have the Stones ever done this with other songs, played twice in a row in concert? |
|
Moonisup |
well why don't they do those things more often, that is a real crowd pleaser!!! |

Flashpoint`s version is in my favorite, listen to Bill`s perfect bass - great, all versions behind 89/90 were not so good as this one |

rotterdam 82 rotter beast of burden version is great |

Without a close second, the '78 versions are the best. If I had to pick one - I'd pick opening night in Lakeland, FLA...just a great rock'n'roll groove that night...they had no idea where the song was going.... |

The 1978 versions are of course the best . No doubt about it.The 80es and 90es versions are unbearable . |

Yeah, I've been to Hannover, too.
That was one of that great magic Stones moments !
Unfortunately things like this don't happen that much anymore. Audiences are just too comfortable (and old?) these days.
BTW - Miss You is one of the tracks I like the studio version best. It always grooves great when it comes on the radio while most of the live versions are just too overplayed.

I agree with CC: one of the best things of the studio version is no doubt Sugar Blue's harp. It's superb and gives the song a melancholic touch. |
