Gospel Music on the color radio station...
The old-timers in the long-running gospel group Blind Boys of Alabama (right) were a little skeptical when they were presented with a few rock 'n' roll tunes to record, including the Rolling Stones' "Just Wanna See His Face" and two by Tom Waits. Sufficiently convinced that the songs contained no irreverence, the boys cut the most successful album of their six-decade career,
last year's "Spirit of the Century." They're touring with the same excellent band that made the recording sessions -- guitarists John Hammond and David Lindley, harmonica ace Charlie Musselwhite and Richard Thompson's rhythm section, drummer Michael Jerome and bassist Danny Thompson. They hit the Bay Area this week.
BLIND BOYS OF ALABAMA AND THE SPIRIT OF THE CENTURY BAND, 8:30 p.m. Thursday. McNear's Mystic Theatre, 21 Petaluma Blvd., Petaluma. Tickets: $30. (707) 765-2121, www.mcnears.com. 9 p.m. Friday. The Fillmore, 1805 Geary Blvd.,
San Francisco. Tickets: $28.50. (415) 346-6000, www.thefillmore.com.

Hell, ain't had that distinct (is it?) the pleasure (?!) of hearing this latest cover, but Just Wanna See His Face is perhaps one of my favourites offa Exile; laugh if you will, but seeming depth gets the Q every time. Every time.
Depth-- not so mucha humorous attempt at languid religiosity-- but real depth. Not a snicker in there ; )Not one.
