definately true (see my above post)

drunken assholes are rampant at all shows. I think it bothers me a little more when I see some who's old enough to know better than the twenty-something thats still generally an overall idiot and still isnt quite old/mature enought to have gotten the bafoonery out of his system yet

but, yeah, it definately effects all ages at all shows

simple rule: if your so drunk that your a slurring/staggering mess than go home. You shouldnt be out in public ruining other peoples time

I also hate that if I spark up at a show, security is on my ass in nano seconds but a guy can be falling over, shouting and bothering people the entire show and security doesnt do a thing

Here's a question: I'm sure if there were people who were around me at the SBC Park RS show I went to with pdog, they'd say *I* was acting like a drunk idiot.

This because I wanted to sing along and dance and they wanted to stand there like statues and not know any song that was being played. Where do you draw the line?

Personally, I'd rather have someone act like a drunken idiot than tell me to stop dancing and sit down at a show.

There's a happy medium.

Then there's the cunt at the Joan Jett show who apparently wanted to stand up in front in a GA crowd but still preserve her "personal space."

Her personal space was presvered, all right.

The biggest assholes being, IMO, the 30 to 45 yuppie type. Usually a liberal fuckwit, who grew up entitled and spoiled. Everyone I know has had these fuckwits try to rip them off, they're cheap, impatient, selfish and annoying as all hell. Throw in booze and you have the biggest assholes on the planet.
I draw this off my job, these are the only people who have ever refused to pay me. and they're morons too. They do this and walk into their house or Apt.... You call the cops and have to waste time to get paid. Happens to me at least 6 times a year... sadly this isn't unique to me, all taxi drivers I know have this same experience in SF. We call them "The Marina People". Crackheads are more reliable and pleasant than these fucksticks!
Upper middle class, white people... Who'd have thunk!

I'd have thunk.

What reason do they give for not paying you? Or do they just try to ditch you and then are so stupid they show you where they live? And what do they do when the cops show up?

I'm all for people singing, dancing, being enthusiastic and having a kick ass time. Drunk or otherwise.

but I have zero tolerance these days for completely polluted asswipes that are a friggin mess

basic rule = do what you want in your space. Jump up and down. Dance. Sing. Poor beer on your head. Whatever.
Just dont fall on me. Knock into me. Spill on me. Or - worst of all - talk about drunken nonsense thru the whole show.

also - totally random - but I feel like mentioning this. Stop shouting out song requests. Even if they hear you, they are still just going to play whatever they drew up on the set list.

This amuses me as well.

Patti Smith's first tour since her exile, she played at the Warfield and then announced a post-show surpise show at Slim's. We rushed over and were standing with these way cool old punks who'd seen the Ramones open for her at CBGBs and shit, and all these baby dyke bitches started coming in and acting like they owned the place...as if Patti was one of their own because she wrote a song about eating a chick out once. They were irritating as hell, but what was REALLY annoying is that one of them kept screaming "WHITE NIGGER! WHITE NIGGER!!!"

Finally I was moved to comment to those around me "What the fuck is she talking about?" and she heard me and said "It's a SONG fuckhead."

I'm like, "The song is called ROCK N' ROLL NIGGER" you MORON!" Man, I wanted to take that chick down.

Pushing everyone out of your way at a show where you don't even know the fucking song titles. I think all those bitches had been turned onto her through Natural Born Killers or something.

GRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR.

Like that cunt at the joan jett show.

Word.

Totally wrecked the last Ryan Adams show I saw at Town Hall.
He got pissed at the incessant requests between songs,
made a coupla sly references during the first set about making a set list during the break - nudge, nudge - but the screaming cementheads didn't get it.

Got even agrier during the second set, so he ordered the lighting guy to turn 'em down - "Red Cave!", and even moved his mic stand back by the drummer.

Ending up cutting the show short, stalked off, and didn't do an encore.

Not sure if that's the ultimate solution though, because he can be a chatty goofball, which naturally begets crowd interaction.
Perhaps his newfound sobriety will help him develop a thicker skin.

Or maybe he should just shut up and play.
Won't hear the shouts for "Come Pick Me Up" then...

Because my better half doesn't drive even though she has a license, I'm always stone cold sober at shows. Because she also was a waitress for almost ten years, she tips all service personnel (including cab drivers, pdog) very, very, well.

I do, however, often shout out song requests, but because I usually like very obscure stuff from an artist's catalogue, and because my voice carries, I sometimes get results. For example, when Leslie West and Mountain played a little club in suburban Schaumburg a couple of years ago, I waited about 1/2 hour into the set, and then shouted for "Theme from an Imaginary Western." Before he started playing it, West indicated that it was one of his own favorite tunes from his catalogue.

Also, a lot of times it's great to see a musician respond by sardonically saying something to the effect that he doesn't remember the words / how to play the particular deep cut / hidden gem.

In sum, I think that musicians (except apparently the Stones) are happy to deviate from the same day-in, day-out setlist, when they realize they have an audience who appreciates more than their "radio hits."

Riffhard I personaly like to scream out,"Smoke On The Stairway To Freebird!" That one tends to crack the bands up. Of course I only yell this out when I hear some other boob trying to scream a request at a band. I once yelled it out at a Silvertide show and the band actully tried to pull it off. LOL! Pretty funny really. Drank some beers and smoked a bowl with the guys after the show and they told me they were gonna try and come up with a good version of it just to shut the morons up.

long story, the short version is they were hammered. Which is fine, except they were all yelling, at each other, about god knows what. Each one, of 4, was having a loud conversation with themselves. on top of it, they were giving me wrong directions. Which is funny, b/c I picked them up in the north beach and they were going to Union and Polk. Right through the tunnel, and these idiots are all yelling and screaming, turn here, turn there, then yelling god knows what at each other. Then dude in the front seat starts yelling practically in my ear. I ask him to stop, he keeps going, so i throw him out, it was that loud and distracting. i live with two kids too, so i have a high tolerance for voices.. I tell the rest of them to get out, but one of the girls starts whining about how she must get home. We're at polk and Bdwy now. So I tell them to shut the fuck up, so I can drive. it was really that loud, so fucking distracting. a minute later we're at 1448 Union st. The guy who was in the back w/ the two girls starts yelling, and telling me he's going to kill me... Then they just all get out. I'm like you have to pay me. The last girl out just leaves the back door open and gives me a dirty look. So i get out and tell them i'm getting paid. We're talking like $7 too. Homeboy rushes me again, saying he's going to kill me ect... i call 911... They come, knock on the door, idiots walked into their house, so i know where they live, get $20 from them, I tell the cops I don't have change, laugh and leave. I got karma too, my next ride was to SFO, and I made $300 Sunday night. Fuck them... This is why cabbies hate these Marina fucks, even though technically they're 1/2 block from the Marina on the other side of Van Ness!
