Ex-teen idol jailed
From correspondents in Los Angeles
19jan06
FORMER teen idol Leif Garrett spent the weekend in a Los Angeles jail after being arrested for failing to pay his subway fare and being under the influence of drugs, police said.
Garrett, 44, a child actor who turned to music in the 1970s and had smash hits with I Was Made for Dancing and a remake of Surfin' USA, was arrested on Saturday at a subway station in downtown Los Angeles.
Transit police Lieutenant Mike Herek said Garrett had no train ticket and was under the influence of an unknown drug.
Garrett had pleaded guilty last March to attempted cocaine possession and placed on probation. Since he was still on probation as of Saturday, he was jailed over the weekend.
He was expected to appear in court for violating his probation although no new charges have yet been filed against him.
Garrett was arrested in Los Angeles in 1999 on charges of trying to buy drugs from undercover officers.
In 1979, he was behind the wheel of a car that plunged down a hillside and left his passenger paralysed.

Apart from all that, he is incredibly talented.
For all his woes, at least he isnt Danny Bonaduce. |

Teen idol? I thought in his day he appealed more to the 5-7 year old crowd, kind of like Barney or Big Bird. |

Let this be a lesson to ya - when you go downtown to cop some smack, set aside $1.25 for a subway ticket. |

GARRETT RELEASED AFTER PROMISING TO ATTEND REHAB
LATEST: Seventies pop icon LEIF GARRETT has been released from jail after telling a judge he wanted to check into a drug diversion programme.
The 44-year-old singer was arrested on Saturday (14JAN06) in Los Angeles after police allegedly found heroin on his possession as they searched him after he tried to ride the subway without a ticket.
The fallen idol has since been detained at the Men's Central Jail in downtown Los Angeles and held without bail because he has an outstanding warrant for his arrest for violating the terms of his probation from a prior drug arrest last March (05).
But authorities agreed to release the troubled star yesterday (20JAN06) after he agreed to seek counselling help in a rehab facility.

You truly are one of the funniest posters I've seen. And believe me, I have an eye for talent.
