Topic: running out of luck - question for loyal stones fans. Return to archive
January 16th, 2006 08:17 PM
texile im just curious, who among us has seen this monstrosity?
it was never widely released but i found it in some fly-by-night video store about a year after it was released.....and a little part of me died that night watching it - jagger had always seemed so cool to me but this......
it was akin finding out the sea monkeys were a hoax.
is it just me or is it that bad?

January 16th, 2006 08:28 PM
Gazza its pretty crappy, although the bit where he goes into the record store in the arsehole of nowhere and tries to prove hes someone famous by digging a copy of Through The Past Darkly, putting it on and dancing to it much to the bewilderment of the locals is something that always makes me laugh.
January 16th, 2006 08:30 PM
Saint Sway its Spinal Tap laughable. And not in a good way.

Mick wants so bad to be a pop commodity. Unfortunately when he comes up with these universally embarrassing ideas no one ever has the balls to slap him in the face and tell him he's making an ass clown of himself.

so as fans we are forced to cringe as we watch Running Out of Luck, Being Mick and RFD at the AMAs.

that was my feeling too texile - this along with "Let's Work" really dented my (until then) unswerving belief that mick (and all he did) was cool - it was a hard crash into a brutal reality

as gazza mentioned it did have a few laughs but, unfortunately, most were, i think, unintentional

exactly - up to that point, jagger was still cool and the saint mentions the arrival of jagger, the pop wannabe.
what happened between some girls and undercover that made it all go so wrong?
i thought he would always be a bad-ass rock star - and he just shriveled into this unfathomable mediocrity.....
right after undercover - even his vocal mannerisms changed.
January 16th, 2006 08:54 PM
Soldatti It's pretty funny sometimes, but a class "C" release overall.
January 16th, 2006 09:59 PM
Sir Stonesalot >what happened between some girls and undercover that made it all go so wrong?<

About 2 tons of cocaine.

The dude did so much blow that he developed a "bulletproof" complex.

I don't think he ever snapped out of it.

The Wick Texile, it is one of the most shameful things ever done by any member of the Stones. Somehow Mick has a monopoly on shameful garbage. The acting is so desperately bad- Jerry Hall was shocking, Mick was worse, and why the hell did Dennis Hopper get on board that bag of shite? I remember buying it and hoping to see a bit of Rae Dawn Chong's skin, which I thankfully got. I did wonder though whether Mick was really giving her one during Hard Woman.

By the way, I think the beginning of the end for Mick as a dangerous sex symbol was that shocking Bette Midler video and duet.

gorda I WANT TO SEE IT!

I WANT TO SEE IT!

I WANT TO SEE IT!

I have been searching for this movie for ages. People tell me to search on ebay, but I never buy anything over the internet.

Gosh! I just want to see it, so bad!

Micky Naked! I want to see it!
January 17th, 2006 02:37 AM
exile Yes i saw it years ago.
And yes it was shockingly bad.

The songs were bad also.

However I always liked "Just Another Night" from that album

Rae Dawn Chong looked great nude in it though as I remember.

RSRTG My personal view is that it's probably the best movie done by Mick, even if it was a promo for She's The Boss.
Call me crazy, call me sick, I like this video starring Mick!

yeah, the "sex scenes" were pretty ...ahem ....realistic;
in fact, chong complained about the whole experience afterwards - saying she felt exploited and used ..she called it pornographic.......
and yes, i hated that bette midler video - mick can't dance in the traditional sense of the word so he looked stupid....
January 18th, 2006 08:21 AM
Lord Homosex No, Jagger can not dance in the traditional sense. That's why he also looks really stupid in th "Harlem Shuffle" video. Hate it when they try to carm these stars into the dancelines. Jagger has no business fronting a line all gyurating in unison. Keith is dangerously close to that whole line in the vid too LOL.
In the "She's the Boss" videos with rae Dawn it cracks me up when Jagger doesn that thing where he is sitiing ast the table with her, and asks her for her make-up bag for a sec. leans over and come sback up, looking all splendorous. kind of like borrowing the female's rock journalists' panties in 72.

Ihavelotsajam Once again, he should have died young. That would have made all the embarrassment disappear and all of you would actually have some normal priorities to worry about.
And if Jagger became terminally uncool after Undercover, why the hell are you still here? Please don't tell me that the other 3 Stones are making up for him now! Christ.

tumbling dice When i was a teenager in the eighties and Jagger realized She´s the Boss he became uncool. What a terrible cover picture! It was bad for all the stones and his fans.It was shame to me be a stones fan because of Mick. When Let´s work and primitive cool came out it became worst. Thanks God Keith did Talk Is Cheap and save their reputation with great riffs.Afterthat the stones became strong again because of the dignity of Keith and his legend and the stones are cool forever.

I too hated She's the Boss, but my problem with it was not the songs, but the production. It was another one of Mick's lame efforts at sounding modern and cutting edge, and coming off sounding like a wet flannel. With some solid production, a rougher sound, and an effort at straight rock n roll, I think there's a lot of good stuff on there and it would have been great. However, you can say that about anything Mick has done in the last 25 years, with Wandering Spirit being a slight exception (although Mick tried to clean that up as well and did to a certain degree but was met with some resistance by Rick Rubin).
