Jagger-Lennon Recording to be Auctioned
www.yahoo.com
LONDON - A London record dealer said Saturday that he plans to sell a rare recording of a musical collaboration between Mick Jagger (news) and John Lennon.
Tom Fisher said the 30-year-old recording of the blues song "Too Many Cooks" features vocals by Rolling Stones frontman Jagger with ex-Beatle Lennon on guitar.
It will be sold by auctioneers Cooper Owen on Feb. 20.
Fisher said he bought the record four years ago from a man who said he was a friend of Rolling Stone Ronnie Wood (news).
Fisher said he recognized Jagger's voice but didn't know Lennon had played on the record until he put it up for sale.
He said the auctioneer had sent it to Jagger, who verified it was genuine and confirmed Lennon's involvement. It reportedly was recorded during the months in 1973 and 1974 Lennon was separated from wife Yoko Ono (news) — Lennon's so-called "Lost Weekend" period.
The track was never released, although a version of the song with Jagger singing and Lennon credited as producer has appeared on bootleg compilation albums over the years.
The record — made directly from the recording session's master tape — will go on the block as part of an auction of rock memorabilia.
Fisher said he didn't want to speculate on its value.
"It is very collectable and very rare," he said. "I am hoping there is going to be a lot of interest in it and I certainly expect to do a little better than the 20 pounds (US$32) I paid for it."

heres a similar piece from ananova today on the same subject
Its a good song and certainly worthy of release (like the recently uncovered "Lost" beatles tapes, its been available on bootlegs for over two decades)- it was generally known Lennon had produced it although I dont think it was confirmed until now that he'd actually PLAYED on it. Al Kooper, Bobby Keys and Jack Bruce also play on this recording.

LONG-LOST LENNON/JAGGER RECORDING GOES FOR AUCTION
Saturday 18 January 2003 1:54pm
A long lost musical collaboration between Mick Jagger and John Lennon has been unearthed more than a quarter of a century after it was recorded.
The track, a cover of the blues song Too Many Cooks, was recorded in 1974 with Jagger on vocals and Lennon on guitar, but it was never released.
And the discovery could leave a record dealer singing all the way to the bank when an acetate record of the song goes under the hammer next month.
Tom Fisher, 34, who runs Rat Records in Camberwell, south London, bought the unlabelled acetate - a record made directly from a master tape - for just £20 four years ago.
He bought it off a man in west London claiming to be a friend of Rolling Stones guitarist Ronnie Wood.
When he played it Mr Fisher realised it was Jagger singing on the record but did not know Lennon was on guitar until he decided to sell it.
It was sent to London auctioneers Copper Owen who, Mr Fisher said, sent it to Jagger's agent for verification.
Jagger is said to have personally verified it as genuine and said it was recorded while Lennon was estranged from Yoko Ono - the so-called "Lost Weekend" period.
Too Many Cooks was written by songwriter Willie Dixon and the auction house describes the Jagger/Lennon version as a "funky blues-style track".
The 10 inch acetate will go on sale as part of Copper Owen's Rock Legends auction on February 20.
