mac_daddy so are you skipping los angeles..?
January 8th, 2005 11:53 AM
Rags Glad you mentioned that. We could use some tips if anyone has any contacts in LA. That one has been a tough nut to crack to get a decent gig. The booking agent is still working on LA. Any suggestions?

Saint Sway I got to see Mac & The Bump band live for the 1st time this winter. He totally exceded my expectations. A really fun show. He sang some really choice Faces cuts - stuff like You're So Rude, Cindy Incidently, Debris and Glad & Sorry. Mac was in great spirits telling stories and jokes between songs. I watched the show at a table with Chris & Rich Robinson who are both huge Faces fans and were singing along throughout the show.

the thing that surprised me the most was how much Mac sounded like Rod Stewart. And how much his personality and mannerisms mirrored Woody's. I truly believe that Mac, Rod & Woody are brothers from different parents. Their so similiar - their voices, their laughs, the spiky hair, the boozing, the gregarious personalites and sense of humor. They are clones.

if ever you get a chance to see Mac live you should go. Its a real treat.

but my vote for best Austin band is "Grady". Its fronted by Big Sugar's Gordie Johnson and is backed up by Austins finest - Double Trouble's Chris Layton & Reese Wayans.

Rags mac_daddy: Thanks for the tips! Just got word that LA may be coming together soon. I'll keep you all posted.

Saint Sway: I saw Chris and Rich at that table, and they said 'hello' to Mac after the gig. We were sitting on the same row at the table directly in front of the stage. I probably 'bumped' into you! Thanks for the great comments. That's an interesting observation. I've always thought that myself...the Faces are like soul brothers. Feel free to post your feedback on Mac's Forum as well: http://www.ianmclagan.com/forum/index.php

Saint Sway hey Rags - small world! Yeah after the show we ran over and said a real quick hi to Mac. Those guys were in a hurry to get out of there though as people were asking them about the reunion rumors. I tried to nudge Rich into hitting Mac up for the box set, seeing as he wrote some liner notes in it but they never bothered to send him a copy. But he didnt want to. Its ok though I picked him up a copy.

Mac's the man. We loved the show.

cheers!

Rags So glad to hear you all had such a great time. We hope to have them back in NYC soon! It was a wonderful night, and the crowd was really digging the band. I was standing behind the table with Mac selling the merch and chatting with fans. I just saw Chris shake Mac's hand and then run off. Nice of them to come and support Mac & the Bumps. Maybe I'll see you the next time around...
January 8th, 2005 06:37 PM
Saint Sway no doubt! I'll definately be there anytime hes in NY

T&A Slim's is definitely a great SF choice - I'll be there for sure. As I mentioned to you on PM, Rags, check out the Petaluma for another Bay Area show, maybe after the Slim's gig - it's the perfect size for the Bumps. looks like there are open dates around that time - here's a link:

Also - if they head north to Oregon - Eugene's a musical hotbed these days - perfect venue would be The Jungle:
