steel driving hammer This has been brought up before but we since have some new members.

Just wondering the setlist?

Wondering the openers, Tina? Guns/Roses?

Wondering the sound? Fast? Lot of electric piano?

Wondering Micks clothes? Colorful?

Wondering the stage? Still can't.

Wondering the opening song? One Hit? Satisfaction?

Wondering Keiths 'Too Rude'...Any Reggae guests?

Wondering the impact of Pop music this tour would of had if any?
5th January 2008 12:34 PM
glencar Maybe it would have made the 1989 Tour into less of an event; less of a Vegas thing. There would have been plenty of Dirty Work & a bit of Undercover. Ah, the possibilities...
5th January 2008 12:46 PM
steel driving hammer See, I forgot about Undercover!

A good She Was Hot maybe!

Too Much Blood? Ah dunno.

Yeah, the possibilities...

Could of been a Great and interesting tour!
5th January 2008 01:25 PM
Mr Jurkka Queston is what if keith and mick wouldn't had angry to each other? Would they then done as good steel wheels? Voodoo Lounge?

Considering half the band were sufering chronic drug addiction, Mick & Keith hated each others guts and could barely share the same room let alone the same stage, I'm amazed how you can say that.

Jagger flat out refused to tour behind Dirty Work because band relationships were at an absolute nadir and the band "were in such a bad physical state they werent fit to cross the Champs Elysees let alone go on the road".

He was absolutely right to do so. A tour at the time - had they all lived to see the end of it - would have finished them. They would never have worked together again afterwards.

I think they would play angie on 10 first songs?
5th January 2008 02:17 PM
glencar And Dirty Work would have been in the set list too.
5th January 2008 03:08 PM
Dan It wouldn't have been a very long tour.

Guns N Roses wouldn't have opened. In 1986 they were opening small venue shows for Cheap Trick, Johnny Thunders, Lords Of The New Church and Ted Nugent.

Lots of Dirty Work and Undercover with a healthy dose of Some Girls and the usual 70's hits.

glencar Feel free to add 4 or 5 songs. That's what the sets were like back then.
6th January 2008 10:34 AM
gimmekeef If they had toured behind such a weak album (imho) it would have mortally wounded them. The fact they were off 7 yrs or so made Steel Wheels the event it was and opened the new age of mega tours.Plus the tech stuff and sound improvements over those years made for a much better concert experience

Lord (Hetero) We call them weak albums; they also never got the treatment that most of their other proper albums got. When they take the songs and rework them for the live stage. The songs often find identity and sometimes not-yet-seen strengths. This was still in the day when Keith and Ron as guitarrists ruled the sound and M.O of the band.
I could see "Pain of Love", "Too Tough", "She was Hot", "One Hit", "Fight", "Had it With You", "Winning Ugly" all get a gooid working over. Not just the perfunctory run through that they gave "She was Hot" on the last tour.

Man looks in the abyss and sees the Dirty Work album staring back up at him . It is at that exact MOMENT that man finds his character and THAT is what keeps man out of the abyss .

The Joey , Established 1999 ....and loved by everybody

Perfunctory? That was the highlight of those shows for me! It was beautiful playing, Mick's sang well, the band cooked! I would die if they did Pain of Love.

Good point.

W/ that being said, we wouldn't have maybe seen ABB today?

If no 'solo' records had been done durring that time, the Stones would of made another 'Exile' by combining the solo records, they would of made a fantastic album, or two!

But we shouldn't live in a fantasy world should we?

But it's more fun!

Based on what? - The songs from Shes The Boss/Primitive "Tool"/Talk is Cheap?

Doubtful. Mick brought almost nothing to the table when they got together for Dirty Work. It showed.

Jagger had made his bed in 1983 when he cut a solo deal with CBS as part of the new Stones contract. It was quite obvious he was forseeing a career beyond the Stones, whom he pretty much regarded as past their sell-by date and with a limited future due to the problems within the band.

If Mick's first two solo albums on CBS been commercially successful, the Stones would not have existed beyond the 80's IMO.

You're saying their carcass will feed the worms?

Glad the Stones worked for the 'other' firm!
6th January 2008 03:47 PM
BILL PERKS BEING THE FOREMOST AUTHORITY ON THIS SUBJECT,MICK WAS TOTALLY RIGHT.ALTHOUGH I WAS CRUSHED AT THE TIME,THIS TOUR WOULD NEVER HAVE MADE IT TO THE FINISH LINE. I DOUBT CHARLIE WOULD HAVE AGREED TO TOUR,IF IT HAD GOTTEN THAT FAR.BY THE NEW YORK SESSIONS ,CHARLIE WAS NOT INVOLVED.

IT'S AMAZING HOW VENEMOUS KEITH WAS ABOUT THIS IN HINDSIGHT..HE AND WOODY WERE STILL COKIN AND CHARLIE WAS ON UPPERS AND HEROIN.DRUMMERS ON HEROIN DONT WORK.

THE BREAK ENDED UP REAFFIRMING THEIR RESPECT FOR EACH OTHER AND THEIR LEGACY

No! ABB was so good! So good!

What I meant was if they toured on Dirty Work, we might have not seen a ABB tour today since Gazza n' them are saying a Dirty Work tour would of 'Finished' the Stones completely and forever stopped.

But I thought Mick bounces back quicker than most...

Saint Sway Dirty Work was meant to be played live and loud

it would of been like the 81/82 tour but even louder, faster and better

"Meant to be"...and "capable of"...were the reasons I guess Mick wisely opted out.....
