Sir Paul McCartney has heart operation as divorce takes its toll
Last updated at 10:59am on 2nd January 2008

Sir Paul McCartney has undergone heart surgery, it has been revealed.
The 65-year-old musician has been mired in a bitter divorce battle with Heather Mills for the past 18 months.

He complained of feeling unwell in the autumn after a series of stressful rows with Ms Mills, 39, over arrangements for their four-year-old daughter Beatrice and the former model's public tirades against him.

Sir Paul had a coronary angioplasty - a procedure that helps unclog arteries - after seeing a Harley Street specialist at the London Clinic, according to reports.

The former Beatle recovered from the surgery quickly because he took regular exercise and had a trim physique, a friend said, adding: "He has always been in exceptional health, which is remarkable when you think of the rock 'n' roll lifestyle he once had."

Sir Paul was well enough to perform a duet with Kylie Minogue in front of millions of viewers at New Year. The pair sang his hit Dance Tonight during Jools Holland's New Year special on BBC2.
Coronary angioplasty is performed by inserting a thin tube into blood vessels in the groin and threading it up to the aorta, where a small balloon at the end of it is then inflated. The balloon squashes fatty deposits blocking the artery, allowing blood to flow more freely.

A short wire-mesh tube called a stent is usually left behind to support that part of the vessel.

Football star David Beckham's father Ted, 59, underwent the same operation after he had a heart attack.

Sir Paul and Ms Mills are still hammering out the terms of their divorce settlement after their fouryear marriage collapsed in 2006.

Next month the High Court will decide how much Ms Mills will receive of his £800 million fortune.

Ms Mills could be sued by her former law firm for £2million. Last month Mishcon de Reya was said to be looking at legal action of its own to recover its fees after a preliminary divorce hearing failed to reach a settlement.

PartyDoll MEG So stressful divorces causes coronary artery disease..Give me a fuckin break! Typical sensational newspaper reporting.
Angioplasty...something I assist with every fricken day of my working life is not "heart surgery." It is a simple procedure usually only requiring an overnight stay in the hopsital for MOST people. Recovery time is minimal-like a week without physical exercise and your jacuzzi. Jeeesh.....

steel driving hammer If Paul doesn't have a Heart Of Stone, (which he doesn't) it will tend to break.

Go save some more Sea Lions Paul.

Good intentions are Cheap.

Well, keef..I'm not making light of anything to do with the old "tick tock." And with our great health care system, any procedure costs $$$$. My only point is that in all honesty, he could have been on stage singing the next day..and his soon to be ex..did not give him his cholestrol/plaque ridden arteries!!!

Nellcote Your not upset at all about Sir Paul's medical procedure there Meg? It must be trauma filled being the former Mr. Stumpy, seeing Wacko Jacko airbrush your name off of songs, changing songwriting credits to McCartney/Lennon, dating Ms. Arquette, Ms. Brinkley. Looks like he needed more than the customary lemon drop the nurse used to give me. I used to say I needed more treatment, to watch her perform, however, that's for another time, when my right to discuss matters of the 70's emabrgo is lifted.

Nellcote Meg, there is a viewing of sunlight on the embargo, as on Christmas Eve, not only was I convinced my consumption of multiple "car bombs" was a good thing by my son's friends, I was also convinced consuming them with my son was a good thing. I still signed a non discussion clause, which, if my timing is correct, will not run out until 2015, or, upon my demise, whichever comes first. The car bomb consumption probably had an impact upon the latter matter, which gives me pause for concern, that my son's friends had an ulterior motive to the royalties which will come from the sale of my book....Developing, as they say....

It is NOT an operation. He was awake and flirting with any females who were attending to him during the enire procedure. Your hero will be fine.

I do have a few "fix it" capabilities..somewhat similar to a mechanic

Well,he was the first pop star to publicly admit to using LSD. Plus, he was busted in 1972,in Japan in 1980 (which saw him spend 10 days in prison) and in 1984.

Oh, and I think he was the first Beatle to grow a moustache. A major development.
