Billy Preston In Serious Condition
by Paul Cashmere
January 16 2006
Billy Preston, the only person ever to share a credit in a Beatles song, is in a serious condition after being treated for an infection near his heart.
Preston is being treated at the Mayo Clinic in Arizona for an infection in a sac around his heart. The performer has been on kidney dialysis since 2002 after an unsuccessful kidney transplant. He is also reported to have uncontrollable high blood pressure.
Billy Preston shared a performing credit on The Beatles single ‘Get Back’ in 1969. He was signed to The Beatles Apple Records label in the 60s and had a hit single with ‘That’s The Way God Planned It’. Preston was close to Beatle George Harrison and performed at charity concert ‘The Concert for Bangla Desh’ in 1971. Preston also performed at ‘The Concert for George’ at the Royal Albert Hall after the passing of The Beatles lead guitarist.
One of Preston’s most recent sessions was for Jet’s ‘Get Born’ album. He played piano on ‘Roll Over DJ’. He also featured on Ringo Starr’s ‘Choose Love’ and Eric Clapton’s ‘Back Home’, both released in 2005
