Highwire Rob Beautiful South's BLUE IS THE COLOR

I love this band, especially the kiss-off song, "Don't Marry Her" and the way Jacqui Abbot sings the satire so sweetly! Since I'm only a few months away from relocating to San Francisco--I can't get it out of my head...

The Beautiful South - Don't Marry Her Lyrics:

Think of you with pipe and slippers
Think of her in Bed
Laying there just watching telly
Then think of me instead

I'll never grow so old and flabby
That could never be
Don't marry her, f**k me

And your love light shines like cardboard
But your work shoes are glistening
She's a Ph.D in 'I told you so'
You've a knighthood in 'I'm not listening'

She'll grab your sweaty bollocks
Then slowly raise her knee
Don't marry her, f**k me

And the Sunday sun shines down on San Francisco bay
And you realise you can't make it anyway
You have to wash the car
Take the kiddies to the park
Don't marry her, f**k me

Those lovely Sunday mornings
With breakfast brought in bed
Those blackbirds look like knitting needles
Trying to peck your head

Those birds will peck your soul out
And throw away the key
Don't marry her, f**k me

And the kitchen's always tidy
And the bathroom's always clean
She's a diploma in 'just hiding things'
You've a first in 'low esteem'

When your socks smell of angels
But your life smells of brie
Don't marry her, f**k me

And the Sunday sun shines down on San Francisco bay
And you realise you can't make it anyway
You have to wash the car
Take the kiddies to the park
Don't marry her, f**k me

And the Sunday sun shines down on San Francisco bay
And you realise you can't make it anyway
You have to wash the car
Take the kiddies to the park
Don't marry her, f**k me

Elvis at Sun - Elvis's Blue Moon is the most haunting track ever.
Blind Date Revisited - Stones Set (full of mistakes, but fuck, what a cool gig)
Tony Joe white - Best Of (Even Trolls Love Rock & Roll - so cool!!)
Bob Dylan - Planet waves (Never Say Goodbye - what a track!)
Elvis - The Jungle Room Sessions - (He was on the way out, physically, and the songs morose, but the voice and emotion still so powerful)

Never Say Goodbye is indeed a hidden gem of a track (and a much underrated album too). Bob's singing on the first verse of that song is one of the finest vocals of his entire career.

Well, that's one reason why I'm leaning towards it but also, I'm interested in what I've heard of it.

I was able to run this through a high-end filter (using Wavepad) and the results are a great improvement - a lot less bass-heavy. I like the results!

Brainbell Jangler Fleabit,
You didn't know Bryan Adams played guitar? He got his first real six-string in the summer of '69. I saw him with a stripped down power trio opening for the Stones in Sacramento on the No Security tour. He did a good job.

Lately, I've been digging Parliament's "Mothership Connection" ("I wants to get funked up!") and the Otis Redding set from Monterey, especially "I've Been Loving You Too Long" and "Satisfaction."

Honky Tonk Man Right now I'm listening to Nirvana. You know, that "best of" they released a few years back. Others of note I've been listening too lately include The Ultimate Johnny Cash, Down In Albion by the Shambles and Employment by the wonderful Kaiser Chiefs. Oh, and don't tell anyone, but I've had a couple of listens to the new Take That compilation. I bought it as a Christmas gift for my missus, but I secretly like some of it to.

Everything Changes but you!

Have been listening it again and again as it's in my car, my recommendation if you like Steve / Humble Pie / Small Faces

CD1 is unrealesed studio recordings and CD2 is live a "mark 4" humble pie. The period 1982-198 was a very hard time for Steve (humiliatedb with no money and his lover paying the bills) so the music was created during those very special time and reveals a "different" Steve, CD2 starts with a killer version of "What'cha gonna do about it" never performed by Humble Pie

Also it was cool to know that Goldie McJohn was a member of Humble pie during this period. Humble Pie made a great rfendition of "Desperation" so it's another connection between the Pie and the Wolf (two common words in the RO vocabulary )

Good stuff! I hadn't heard any of GP until a week ago and have been playing it every day since - thought it too mellow at first but the hooks are digging in deeper with each listen.

Voodoo, it's great to read that you're a Steve Marriott fan. There doesn’t seem to be too many here. I've always loved The Small Faces and used to collect their fanzine, Darlings Off Wrapping Wharf. I've gone to a couple of Small Faces conventions at The Ruskin Arms pub in East Ham, London. It used to be run by Ian Mclagans parents. As he wasn’t the original drummer, maybe I'm thinking of Jimmy Winston. I can't remember!

Many here seem to like The Faces, but not the Small Faces. Maybe it's because of the Ronnie connection, but I've never really understood it.
