Ten Thousand Motels JAGGER THE CARIBBEAN LANDLORD

THE ROLLING STONES star SIR MICK JAGGER is making a fortune by renting out his houses. The rocker is offering holiday-makers the chance to stay in his six-bedroom Caribbean pad in $11,000 (GBP5,700) a week. Also on offer is the luxurious apartment , Jagger brought for his ex-wife JERRY HALL. Both properties are on the private island of Mustique and could draw in a further $772,000 (GBP400,000) a year to the successful singer's bank account.

moy Wanted: New master for real celebrity love island
by JAMES TAPPER Last updated at 10:06am on 7th January 2007

It will probably be the toughest interview in the world.

The residents of the Caribbean island of Mustique, who include Sir Mick Jagger, Bryan Adams, Tommy Hilfiger and Felix Dennis, are seeking a new man to run their paradise.

Paradise: Celebrities such as Zoe Ball have fallen for Mustique

The successful candidate will have to convince an intimidating panel of the world’s richest celebrities, entrepreneurs and businessmen that he deserves the job.

But the rewards will be impressive – a £500,000 salary, a personal chef, maid and gardener – and a place in the most exclusive holiday resort in the world.

Prince William and Kate Middleton, Hugh Grant and Jemima Khan, and Zöe Ball and Norman Cook are among the couples to have chosen Mustique’s multi-million-pound villas for a romantic getaway in recent years.

It is the first time the position of managing director of the Mustique Company has become vacant since the 1,400-acre island was bought by Colin Tennant, Lord Glenconner, in 1969. He transformed it from a mosquito-infested swamp into a millionaires’ retreat that became renowned as the second home of Princess Margaret during her affair with Roddy Llewellyn.

Glenconner’s right-hand man was Brian Alexander, son of Field Marshal Earl Alexander of Tunis. He remained in charge of the island when Tennant sold it in 1976 and when the island’s residents took over in 1988.

As managing director, Mr Alexander is responsible for overseeing law and order, education – the island has one primary school - hospitality and amenities.

But he plans to retire in April and has appointed former Tory Health Secretary Virginia Bottomley’s headhunting firm, Odgers Ray and Berndtson, to find his replacement.

Mr Alexander said: ‘It’s a broadranging job. The ideal candidate may have expertise in the hospitality industry or perhaps be ex-military.’

He confirmed that Sir Mick Jagger, who has owned a home on the island since his marriage to first wife Bianca, and the Canadian singer Bryan Adams would be taking part in the selection process.

But Jagger and Adams may not be the most daunting faces on a panel that will include fashion designer Tommy Hilfiger, who is worth an estimated £240million, and publisher Felix Dennis, who moved into David Bowie’s £5million estate in 1995. Dennis is worth about £560million and is famously demanding.

The late photographer Lord Lichfield, who owned a villa on the island, once said: ‘It’s a hell of a job. You have a lot of very spoilt people . . . from inherited millionaires who go out there with an almost colonial spirit to modern internet billionaires.’

The island has 85 villas with starting prices of £2million. There are 1,250 people working at the docks, airport and shops, and issues the new MD will have to deal with include the increase of air traffic – private jets are now discouraged to reduce noise and pollution.
