Maybe the younger Vietnamese don't know French as well as the older do...since they weren't around when the French infiltrated Vietnam. Plus, if she never lived in Vietnam, then she might not know it.
I guess some of them can speak English. What's funny is that the older Vietnamese refer to black people as "soul brother" or "soul sister." I've heard a lot of old Vietnamese women say "I speak jive." And it cracks me up! |
