There are other bands/singers I need to explore deeper, which is why I have trouble catching up with the best stuff in today's sea of shitty music because I'm discovering what was great in the 80s and the 90s will come next. And hate is a real strong word, but here goes (*means dislike, $means truly hate and wish they'd go away or at least die in some plane wreck):
Foreigner*
Journey*
any cruddy hair metal band of the 80s
Britney Spears$
Jessica/Ashlee Simpson$
Hilary Duff$
Black Eyed Peas ("My Humps" clinched it)*
these lame-ass "punk" bands (Good Charlotte*, Billy Talent*, 3 Days Grace*, the list goes on and some are even underground even though they suck-trust me, my sister listens to this shit)
most rap/hip-hop (but Grandmaster Flash, Public Enemy, NWA, Outkast are all pretty good. Kanye's a pretentious poor man's Outkast)
Eagles* (seriously, here's where I agree with guys like jb, this band is not rock, not country, it's a wussy combination of the two, cunt-rock)
post 1977 Aerosmith*
post 1975 Rod Stewart*
post 1976 Elton John*
The Moody Blues* (one of the few 60s groups I actually can't stand, outside of a few songs they were utter pretentious, ego-influenced orchestral junk)
Bee Gees* (outside of their 1967-68, 1975-79 periods, they weren't much to write home about)
Iron Butterfly* (ugh, the nadir of psychedelic excess)
Chicago$ (started off good, became crappy in the 70s, Terry Kath accidentally kills himself and they became bar none the worst chart band of the 80s along with Air Supply)
Air Supply$ (see above, Australlia's answer to Chicago)
Genesis* (Invisible Touch-onward when Phil Collins adult contemporary hackwork ruined the band)
Phil Collins*
Crosby, Stills and Nash*
Stephen Stills*
Emerson, Lake and Palmer$
Grand Funk Railroad* (world's worst popular arena rock band in the early 70s. Can anybody shed some light on why they were so big?)
Wings* (not Band on the Run or Venus and Mars, but the rest? Yuck)/Macca* (save a few albums, a total hack)*
Rick Wakeman$ (most.annoying.keyboardist.ever)
Kansas* (even their opus "Dust in the Wind" sounds like a 3rd rate Peter, Paul and Mary tune)
Styx$
Supertramp*
Boston$
Asia$
Human League*
Kylie Minogue* (see I don't hate her terribly and it would be in bad taste to give a $ anyway seeing as how she has cancer and all)
Madonna* (her popularity is from sheer media manipulation as her music has always been lame, half-hearted ripping off of the current popular sounds/trends which somehow get attributed to her "genius" by media and critics alike who think she's a trend-setter)*
Celine Dion$
those bad 70s AM radio rock bands
.38 Special*
Osmonds$ (all of them)
teenyboppers from any decade, they all suck unless you include Ricky Nelson, he was ok.
Bon Jovi$
Billy Joel*
Nickelback* (and all their nu-metal buddies)
Korn*
Limp Bizkit*
Kid Rock*
Starship$
...And the list could go on just as long if not longer than my likes.
January 12th, 2006 03:28 AM
Voodoo Scrounge G'n'R are appearing on far too many Hate lists for my liking.

Ihavelotsajam There's way too many shitty bands out there for me to list them all-- bands that I not so much "hate", but rather don't even rate.

Like Fall Out Boy? Or Simple Plan, etc. Are they even worth putting on a list? Or any of the 80s Hairbands like Poison, I mean, if I list Poison, I'd have to list Warrant, Skid Row, Cinderella and any one of the sorry bands that was actually more popular than great lesser-known 80s music, and that is nowadays making people say shit like "The 80s sucked musically." Also, if I list Eagles, I'd also have to list Boston, Kansas, Styx, America, Toto, Foreigner and a number other bands who are not even worthy of mention.

But there are definitely bands that I think have gotten attention that they have never deserved and never will-- Led Zep, Beach Boys and Queen being at the top of my shitlist. I never got prog rock either, and wish Geddy Lee or the guy from Yes would cease the screaming and leave.

100 pct agree.

My turn:

un.bear.a.ble bands: deep purple, black sabbath, ac/dc, credence, doors..... ..... .....

I really like:
Stones
Strokes
Neil Young
Dylan
Cowboy Junkies
R.E.M.
B-52's - I LOVE them!!!
Black Eyed Peas
Eminem
Lenny Kravitz - LOVE this too!!!
Dr Dre
Coolio, mainly, which is very good.
Al Green
Black music
Beatles, but basicly the White Album & abbey Road
Kraftwerk
Madonna
Macca
Blur
Oasis
Gorillaz ... 90pct of the new british rock and roll/pop bands, more the trip-hops like Morcheeba, and also Massive Attack, whose kind of music I can't define.

Brazilian pop music, like the group "Kid Abelha", Xtremelly good/competent, the singer Lulu Santos, more Bossa Nova team, of course, ie, Tom Jobin, Joao Gilberto, Bebel Gilberto, Marisa Monte, all that stuff...and, of course, the best of all: Chico Buarque, quite a genius to write great lyrics and play acoustic guitar.

Man, you have to be GOOD to play like him. Most of people I know try and just give up.

glencar I do like that song but actually, Stevie Wonder did it a decade earlier. Like most otehr rap, it's extremely derivative & not very original although I'll grant that song is highly listenable.

I agree with you again: it is derivative & not exactly original, but is nice, yet.

And, I forgot to include Stevie Wonder in my list. Love that nigga too!

When I start to listen "Songs In the Key of Life" is kinda problem, b/c then I can't stop.

Yeah Pastime Paradise. All my friends in school were shitting themselves over Gangsta's Paradise melody when it came out until *someone* had to mention that it was taken from Stevie Wonder. Coolio suddenly seemed less cool.

It seems to me SOL was inspired in "New Kid in Town"...and the bad news is that the Eagles song is better!!!

New Kid In Town

There's talk on the street; it sounds so familiar
Great expectations, everybody's watching you
People you meet, they all seem to know you
Even your old friends treat you like you're something new

Johnny come lately, the new kid in town
Everybody loves you, so don't let them down

You look in her eyes; the music begins to play
Hopeless romantics, here we go again
But after awhile, you're lookin' the other way
It's those restless hearts that never mend

Johnny come lately, the new kid in town
Will she still love you when you're not around?
There's so many things you should have told her,
but night after night you're willing to hold her,
Just hold her, tears on your shoulder

There's talk on the street, it's there to
Remind you, that it doesn't really matter
which side you're on.
You're walking away and they're talking behind you
They will never forget you 'til somebody new comes along
Where you been lately? There's a new kid in town
Everybody loves him, don't they?
Now he's holding her, and you're still around
Oh, my, my
There's a new kid in town
Ooh, hoo
just another new kid in town
Ooh, hoo
Everybody's talking 'bout the new kid in town,
Everybody's walking' like the new kid in town
There's a new kid in town
There's a new kid in town
I don't want to hear it
There's a new kid in town
I don't want to hear it
There's a new kid in town
There's a new kid in town
There's a new kid in town.
