midnightmagic Who knows of the best recording from the 67 european tour that has "Goin Home" included in it? If anybody has one I would like to trade.

VoodooChileInWOnderl First boot ever was "Liver than you'll ever be" from Oakland 1969. No boots from dates before. Some has been using TV shows, or some tracks from live shows as a source for bootlegs before 1967 but no complete or semi complete shows on bootlegs before 1969

fmk438j I have supposedly Zurich '67, but it is probably the worst thing I ever heard. You can't hear Mick at all on most tracks.

Sounds like they used a tape recorder under about 5 duffle coats.

Although the sound is horrendous, one thing that is cool is hearing how nuts the crowd go, especially Ruby tuesday, singing perfectly to the chorus (at least you hear SOME vocals!).

Mathijs There's quite some pre-1969 shows available:

Paris, 1965, 1966, 1967:
A Rolling Stone Gathers No Moss
2 CD - VGP 101
Disc 1 contains 4 tracks from Paris April 18, 1965, 3 tracks from Paris March 29, 1966 and 5 tracks from Paris April 11, 1967. Taken from a recent French rebroadcast incl. radio speaker's announcements in exc. mono soundboard quality. Plus 4 tracks from a Swedish TV special on April 2, 1965 in full playback and bad quality. Disc 2 contains the complete shows from Paris April 18, 1965 in exc. mono soundboard quality and Paris April 11, 1967 in good - very good mono soundboard quality. Some tracks are recorded twice on both discs! All except the Paris 1967 show has already been released before on other VGP releases (the Paris 1965 show even twice!) or is useless. So why a 2 CD set for only 9 new Paris 1967 tracks?

TAMI show, October 29, 1964:

Bright Lights, Big City (Dandelion DL 099/100)
This show was for a very long time only available on a LP while The video is available on a legal Japanese laser disc! Finally Dandelion put it on their Bright Lights, Big City 2 CD reissue. Fantastic performance, seeing it makes it even better.

VGP 301 is Do You Like The Rolling Stones?, which is the 2nd Melbourne show from february 24 1966, recorded in excellent soundboard quality.

Berlin, Germany, September 15, 1965 and Hamburg, Germany, September 13, 1965 :

On Tour (In the Sixties) (RS 3012)
This CD is a copy of the bootleg LP's Brian We Miss You (MDR 5) and The Riot Show/Berlin 1965 (MDR 1). The Berlin material sounds quite good (I mean, we're talking 1965!), and especially Brian can be heard well. The Hamburg song is taken from a television broadcast (a news clip) and sounds very muffled. The Vienna 67 can be found in better quality on Grooving Around (VGP 047). This CD is for the serious completists only!
Funny story is that in august 1999 a BBC television program was broadcasted concerning the bootleg market. A chief inspector was asked what his working drive was and in answer he put on a copy of On Tour, starting with The Last Time, telling the (probably amazed audience!) that this was the general sound quality of bootlegs, obviously not comparable to official releases!

Paris, March 29, 1966, 1st show :
Englands Rarest Hitmakers (KO004)
First available on a rare LP in unlistenable quality, then on the Hot Lips Fucking and Sucking CD title from tape and now with bonus tracks available on England's Rarest Hitmakers (strangely, Play With Fire sounds different on both CD's, anybody knows why? Thanks to Dave Heller for pointing this out). Three songs are incomplete. All songs have a French radio announcer talking over the intro. Like most Brian Jones tapes the quality of the CD doesnt lend itself to be played full volume over the radio system, but with a set of headphones these shows can be really enjoyable. Once you listen through the hiss and ignore the French reporter, this title is really fun to listen to. With the high quality of playing and the sheer energy of the concert these early shows really stand out. This title also includes rare official stereo releases like the incredible studio version of Ive Been Loving You Too Long (This track has been available on vinyl and on at least one CD (The First Decade, Big Music BIG 4006-9). This title is for completists and connoisseurs.

Vienna 4/2/67 + The Hague 4/15/67 :
Groovin' Around (VGP 074)
Two of the most common Brian Jones era audience tapes. The first 7 songs from Vienna are listenable and not bad for the time. At least the sound is far better then on the old LP! The last 7 songs are from the Houtrusthallen, the Hague (the Netherlands) and are of very poor quality. What can be heard is the Dutch audience discussion the show, and lots of screaming

Sydney, AUS, February 18, 1966 :
He Is Not Dead (VGP 017)
In February 1966 the Stones did a sixties version of the Winter Tour, starting with two shows at the Commemorative Auditorium Showgrounds, Sydney. At least four shows of this tour were aired by radio, and until now only one show turned up on CD. The sound quality of this CD is, concerning the date when this tape was recorded off the air, quite good, but I think only Stones purist will enjoy it. It certainly is the best sounding, complete 1966 radio show (the better sounding Honolulu show is a true soundboard recording and not a radio show). There is a fair amount of hiss and static, but the show is (like all early sixty shows) incredible with a really nice set list. This tape certainly is for completists and connoisseurs only.
Set list: Mercy Mercy, She Said Yeah, Play With Fire, Not Fade Away, The Spider and the Fly, Thats How Strong My Love Is, Get Off Of My Cloud, 19th Nervous Breakdown, Satisfaction. Further on this title are two versions of Little One, a jam with Brain Jones on Sitar and Jimi Hendrix on guitar. This style of music is not my cup of tea, but nice to have anyway. Track 3 and 4 of the CD are 25 (!) takes of Citadel, not included on Satanic Sessions Volume One and Two ( Midnight Beat MBCD 120-123 and MBCD 124 126)

Paris, March 29, 1966, 2nd show :
On Stage in the Sixties (RS 3011)
This CD is a copy of both the "A L'Olympia 1966" and "A L'Olympia 1967" vinyl LP. The 1967 show is available in far better quality on the Vinyl Gang title A Rolling Stone Gathers No Moss (taken from recent broadcasts), but the 1966 show is only available complete on this CD. There is no announcer. This title is certainly for completists only.
