A MULTI-millionaire British rock star is at the centre of a child porn investigation, it was claimed last night.
The man, a legendary name in Britain and the US, is suspected of subscribing to a seedy US pay-for-view internet service.
His name, credit card details and email address were on a list of 7,000 people passed to British police by US authorities earlier this year.
Scotland Yard is investigating his background. If arrested, the star - married with children and living
in Britain - would be the highest profile person to be held in the international child porn probe known as Operation Ore.
Police sources said last night they wanted to make "absolutely sure" the musician's credit card was not stolen or "cloned" before being used.

RICHMOND, England -- Rock legend Pete Townshend has issued a public statement denying being a paedophile after his name was linked with a police Internet porn inquiry.
But The Who guitarist and song-writer did admit studying child pornography for research into a campaign against it. He told reporters on Saturday that he told police what he was doing.
Standing on the doorstep of his mansion in Richmond, in south-west London, the Press Association reported the 57-year-old star as saying: "I am not a paedophile. I think paedophilia is appalling."
Townshend, who is married with children, continued: "To fight against paedophilia, you have to know what's out there.
"I have been involved in a campaign against paedophilia on the Internet but it fizzled out.
"I think I may have been sexually abused as a child and I was doing research into it. I've been writing my life story and the research is for a book.
"I've been in touch with Scotland Yard to tell them what I was doing. I have contacted them but no police officers have contacted me.
"I am waiting for the police to talk to me but they haven't been round. I have done a lot of work on paedophilia and my Web site has highlighted it.
"I have looked into the abuse that children have suffered in Chechnya and Kosovo and the portrayal of these children on the Internet and it appals me.
"I was worried this might happen and I think this could be the most damaging thing to my career."
The Press Association reporter told CNN that Townshend appeared "earnest and serious" during the interview.
The star said he was interested in adult porn, adding: "I've always been into pornography and I have used it all my life.
"I'm going to talk to my lawyers to see what happens next."
Asked if he had a message for his fans, or if he planned to make a statement, he said: "I am not a paedophile. I want to clear my name."
Leaving his home, he said: "I'm going to see my son. I've not been charged with anything. I've always been warned about campaigning about this."
He added: "I'm hoping that this will go away. I've been warned not to say anything on this."
Reporters questioned Townshend following a report in two British tabloid newspapers, The Daily Mail and The Sun, that details of an unnamed internationally-famous musician had been passed to detectives dealing with an American pay-per-view porn ring.
The Daily Mail said Scotland Yard officers were now investigating and deciding whether to make an arrest.
A Scotland Yard spokeswoman refused to discuss details of the inquiry.
She told CNN. "We can't confirm that we are investigating a British rock star. We don't discuss individuals," said a spokesman.
British police are conducting their largest-ever investigation, code-named Operation Ore, into online paedophilia and child pornography.
About 1,300 people, including a judge, magistrates, dentists, hospital consultants and a deputy headmaster, have so far been arrested.
In 1999 British pop star Gary Glitter was jailed for four months after indecent pictures of children were found on his laptop computer.
Earlier this week the former glam rock star, real name Paul Gadd, was arrested in Cambodia and deported from the country.
In another case, singer, record producer and broadcaster Jonathan King was jailed for seven years in 2001 for sex attacks on five boys.

Kinds weird what with the Gary Glitter link (Glitter played the Princes Trust benefit performance of "Quadrophenia" with The Who at Hyde Park in June 1996 - performing "Punk & the Godfather" with Daltrey)
Glitter was sent to jail in Dec. 1999 for child porn. The Who played a couple of Christmas shows at Shepherds Bush Empire a week or so later. Townshend's between-song rants about Glitter during these shows - how wrong he was about his character and what a lowlife piece of shit he sees him as - are priceless in their vitriol |

That's really sad and it makes me so, fuckiung angry when someone, ie. Pete Towndsend, is trying to do something incredibly good for this world to help people through research, etc., and then gets shot-down for it!!! UGH!!!  Good luck to him...

This is hard to believe, as Pete had written many things on his webiste diaries about campainging for child porn sites to be taken off search engines. He also wrote quite a lot of stuff on his site about the subject in general, because of his personal experiences.
Hopefully this is a misunderstanding.

I have to agree with Nellcote. The 'research' concept is a throw out to left field...
Being a parent myself and wanting to be 'educated' on such individuals, I've taken the proper avenues to my 'research'... ie: local, county & state police headquarters have AMPLE information & websites to educate the public.
Sorry but, I don't need to have a picture drawn for me to satisfy my curiousity.

On a related note, I've been doing some heavy, HEAVY!, research on alcoholism and I think I finally understand it enough to fight it! I just need a few more "research sessions" to make sure I've got it right.
Then I'll stamp out alcoholism in our lifetimes.
It's for the CHILDREN!!! Save the CHILDREN!!!!

Maxy I wish you could "stamp out" the disease of alcoholism in our lifetimes...it is one of the most destructive forces on earth..affects everyone who comes into contact with it...and filters down generation to generation.
My brother is an alcoholic and he is a shell of the boy I knew when we were kids. He has almost NO contact with his two children, although he lives a mere 3 blocks away from them..got NOTHING for them for Christmas, one of the few days last year that he did see them. He does not pay his ex-wife child-support (she does no go to the court to enforce it)..lives rent free at my parents other home..(at age 42) (that they need to sell they are not wealthy)..blames everyone else for his inability to hold a job...drinks everyday...is abusive verbally.....looks like HELL....is physically deteriorating daily. Oh yeah, he lives in a dream world....and is emotionally unavailable to his family. It is heartbreaking to witness.
His daughter is suffering from the affects of her Father's illness...for example she longs for and searches out men to replace him...seeking the love she is not getting AND needs so badly. That is what breaks my heart the most...seeing her suffer and in pain. It will be a long, hard road for her to climb out of that space...and I pray she finds good orderly direction in her life to make it out and into the light. It is not a laughing matter.
Petey said he was abused as a child (sexually). I believe him. He has carried that anger and aggression with him his whole life. I recognize it as I am a survivor too.
I want to believe him as well. Perhaps he made some poor choices on how he is participating in this "fight" against child pornography. It's a sticky wicket.
Regardless of his (hopefully) innocence the press will crucify him.....it is the end of the Who, most certainly. |
