Joseph,
Check out The Who - Who's Next DVD by Image Entertainment - Classic Albums. They isolate Entwistle's bass on a studio take of Won't Get Fooled Again - its unreal what that guy could do. Daltrey narrates over it and he's exclaiming away in cockney - great Who moment.
Bless You Moonie ......................
You are much loved by The Joey

Entwhistle, Bruce and Wyman are the upper echelon of rock bassists. All legends.
for rock bassists, I always prefer the really heavy tone guys. In addition to Ox and Bruce, a couple that werent mentioned in this thread that were HEAVY...
Allen Woody
Geezer Butler

Darryl - IMO a solid player, not as spontaneous or as groove-centric as Wyman, but always there when Keith or Ronnie are busy talking shit / having a fag. LOL! |

Wyman by a long shot...The OX was great but not even close to the Wyman rhythm............Since Billleft, a huge void.....Daryl=nice guy, not a good fit for Stones..like Stella, they lost their grove..and yehm those 78-81 boots prove it..siomply fantastic...listen to SMU...Bill was unbeleivable..The Ox was great, but dead and gone.......lets no forget Bill Wyman and Mick Taylor-those 2 were there when this band ruled the world.............fuck U2 and the Ox!!!! |

I will bet $1 in hard American currency that none of the people saying Bill is the best bassist ever are bass players or drummers themselves - the idea of it is so ridiculous. I can see him being your FAVORITE, but he was really run-of-the-mill, and only the fact that he was playing with one of the greatest drummers in the world ever lifted him above mediocrity.
Robbie Shakespeare IS the shit - a great player. Significantly, hardly ever mentioned without his drummer - bass players are nothing by themselves. I'm not a big Sinead O'Connor fan but I heard a cut from her new album, a Peter Tosh song with Sly & Robbie backing her up, and it sounded great. |

Probably because she doesn't play bass.

Very well.
