LadyJane Winter Classic today at 1 on NBC.

Buffalo vs Pittsburgh outside in front of a sold out football stadium. 70k and I'm sure the tailgating is underway.

Should be interesting.

I should have known your hometown team would win, Fucker.

It was a great game,though.
A great day for the sport.
And a great tribute to the Sabres organization and the great fans of WNY.

sweetcharmedlife I watched the game. It was fun to see them play hockey in the snow. Good attention for the sport. But it looked like the ice wasn't really good. Scoring was tough. But the NHL got what they wanted. A shootout game....Meanwhile GO SHARKS!!

gimmekeef With the BCS Bowl games spread out now the NHL has an opportunity to make New Years day outside a tradition. It would be nice to keep Buffalo as host cause they were great but NFL playoffs will interfere at some point.Heres some other great ideas for outdoor games:

Rangers-Islanders or Devils
Monteal- Toronto
Boston- Philly
Detroit-Colorado
Chicago-Dallas

(based on weather and TV interest)

You are assuming the Bills will make the playoffs at some point....But yes it would be fun to see this become a New Years Day tradition.

LadyJane From what we are hearing here in Bflo, the league wants to wait a few years to "build" up the momentum for another "Winter Classic".

If the national ratings are good, however, they may change their minds.

From all local reports, it was a great time!!!

Good pics, taptrick.

Taptrick And thanks to Buffalo for providing a fantastic venue and the very best enthusiastic fans. All the pics are from http://www.nhl.com/ Oh, I forgot to put up the best pic from nhl.com, "the frozen moment":

Well from what I heard. The ratings were among the highest ever for a regular season NHL game. They should continue with it on new years day. Although maybe rotate cities.

Don't forget the battle of Alberta - Calgary/Edmonton! Both with perfect outdoor conditions, too.
