Steel Wheels ...for the first time in well over a year. I was struck at how fucking great this album is. Charlie Watts is all over this. His sound is amazing.

Keith's solo on You Got Me Rocking is his best ever. The background vocals on Love is Strong are also cool. I hear Keith back in there!

The slinky guitar work of Brand New Car sounds fun. keith's sound is very upfront in the mix, with just a hint of distortion. Very confident sounding as well. Big, thick chops and that lead on You Got Me Rocking...gotta hear it again!

It pays to listen to music through headphones, even when Mick makes you cringe when he sings, "Sharks will cry."

I did listen to this every day for two years when it cam out and it's been a lot of fun to revisit with it this morning.

glencar I think it's their worst effort since the Black & Blue 8 song album of 1976.
6th December 2007 01:20 PM
jb The only album since 1981 worth listening to...

glencar As am I. I just recognize VL as one of their less-interesting efforts.

Did I suggest you were not a GREAT fan?
No.

Just giving props to SW.
Did you meet him in ACII????

I don't think you did.

We need another tour, dammit

Dan I liked it a lot when it first came out - and it was on the shelf collecting dust a week later. Listened to it a few times since but mostly with my finger on "Next" and I am done in about 15 - 20 mins. IIRC it wasn't even the best CD to come out that week.

glencar I did like the video for I Go Wild. Kinda sexy & humorous; always a nice combo!

Jaggedblues As far as modern day Stones albums go, VL is right near the top and to my ears an enjoyable listen. I like to listen to it once or twice a year, it's a nice collection of songs. You can't go wrong with Thru And Thru, Love Is Strong, and Blinded By Rainbows.

The Voodoo Brew alternative version of VL is even better, they should have released that one rather the one they did.

Child of the Moon I've always dug the album, personally. It holds a lot of great memories for me, and there are some truly phenomenal moments on there. I won't be as presumptuous as saying that it's one of their best ever... but it is a fucking cool album.

pdog I think VL is very Good. Thru & Thru is great, and it is what makes this album very good, instead of just good. The ballads are as usual, Stones ballads. Love Is Strong is still a fun song to listen to... My biggest complaint, having heard the bootlegs outtakes and the b-sides is, the songs left off and the running order. I really do wonder sometimes how The Stones make decisions. i don't know where i'm going with this...
I'll listen to it tonight.

you know how to post a link right? You put url in the captions, right?
instead of url, put img. If you don't get this, I'm calling the Fla bar, you need to be able to do this, to succesfully represent a client. It's part of the moral and trust thingy!
LOL!
