Topic: Care to share your love for the Stones? Return to archive
01-06-04 09:48 AM
Lazy Bones I received this email yesterday and replied. This young lady is looking for Stones fans to answer 3 questions about the band. I thought it was a neat experience by trying to detail an admiration or love of the Stones. I don't recall seeing her post here, though.

Her email is attached should you care to assist her. Enjoy!

Jeff,
Hi, I hope you're keeping well. My name's Karen and
your name was highly recommended to me by Gazza, as a
big Stones fan. If this is correct, I'm writing as
some classmates and I are researching this term, the
careers of both the Stones and the Beatles, in our
media studies course at high school.

I can manage, but my reason for writing, is my teacher
has come up with a couple optional survey questions to
ask of any (preferably advanced) Stones and Beatle
fans (if I can find any), that I can't answer. We
posted on a couple Stones message boards, but the
response was not that big unfortunately. I'd be very
grateful if you can respond yourself (between now and
next 7 days, if at all possible).

If there are any other hardcore, eloquent Stones fans
you know (or don't know, but you still admire for
being eloquent and articulate when it comes to the
Stones), their current contact E mail address would be
much appreciated, if possible. I can mention you
recommended them, or not mention anything, if
preferred.

Question 1. Irrespective of whether they're with, or
currently aren't with the band, or even if not alive
anymore, if you had to name who was (and still is)
your personal favorite individual Stones band member,
who would you currently pick and please say why ?

This is a pretty tough question I know and there's a
tendency for some fans to cop out and say the Stones
work best as a group. I totally agree, but if you
had to pick a fave single
(past / present) Stones member, please do and say why.
The criteria can be whatever you value the most -
musical talent, the 'best' personality, best
songwriter, best singing talent, etc.

Question 2. In no more than 50 words max, who would
you say is the better group and why - the Stones or
the Beatles. The criteria (as with question 1), can
be whatever you want it to be. If anyone said
something on this topic (that you may have read
somewhere, or have on file), that you think eloquently
answers this question, please send the quote, if
possible. Certainly the Stones have always been /
still are, superb and masterful live concert
performers and have taken live performing very
seriously. Whereas the Beatles didn't enjoy live
performing, for the most part.

Question 3. If you had to pick one, who would you
choose as your favorite individual member of the
Beatles and why ? The criteria, can be whatever you
want it to be. If the Beatles and their music have
never been your cup of tea, no problem.

Thanks so much for your time. I hope to hear from
you.

Sincerely,
Karen Jackson

is this the same (at least for #1)..?

Lazy Bones Could be, Mac. First-time poster, too. They've opted out of displaying a name, etc in the profile so I can't say for sure. I did notice that thread; but, then again, those kinds of questions are posted every few months when new registered users like to initiate their involvement and ask those sort of questions (favourite song, album, member, tour, ex-wife, whatever...).

She (Karen) seemed pleasant enough and was very thankful for my time.

SHINE A LIGHT i'll be happy to respond to her later in the day when time allows.

SHINE A LIGHT just came up with a better idea.....LB, have her post the questions HERE. that way she will get a mixture of ideas and she will be able to put this assignment together herself.
it seems that she did not like our idea that the stones are a unified band.....so perhaps you could "delicately" suggest that she pose her questions in a clear manner.
also, have her post three/four separate question....that way she will receive all of our thoughts in a combined manner. that sounds fair to me, at least.

Honky Tonk Man Hey Lazy Bones, I got the same E-mail too. I ALSO came highly recommended by Gazza. In fact, I got exactly the same word for word E-mail from Karen as you. I replied just before I spotted this thread saying that I would be happy too help. Despite her cheekiness in sending everyone the same e-mail, i'm going to have a stab in the next few days. It's like been back at school again!

Well, isn't that something. I guess the question to ask is - did Gaz really recommend us? Seeing it's us two, I find it easy to believe!

Besides, my email isn't listed in my profile; so it had to come from somewhere.

Happy writing.
Jeff
