Mick is obviously not "gay", if this means "mainly homosexual". His girlfriends, wives, mistresses, etc. could nearly fill a theater, were they all gathered. Wouldn't that be nice! 
But he did admit to a few experiments with bisexuality. The 1960' and 70' were great years for trying new things, with sex as well as with drugs, music, politics, spirituality... In a much quoted interview with Lisa Robinson in Interview magazine, in 1984, he had this to say:
"MJ: Well, I wasn�t as good looking as she [daughter Jade Jagger] is and I didn�t get as many boys, or girls...
LR: Boys?
MJ: I got the boys and not the girls. No, I didn�t get the attention of the opposite sex that she does, because she�s just so attractive.
LR: What did you just say, that you got the boys...
MJ: Oh, I was just bullshitting. No, I was thirteen and very spotty and people didn�t think I was that cute.
LR: Well, you�re joking about it, but you have had a reputation and there have been rumors as to your involvements with men.
MJ: I haven�t really had a heavy sexual thing with men since I was at school.

LR: Did you really have heavy sexual relationships with boys then?
MJ: No....
LR: And you haven�t since?
MJ: No. [...] I haven�t had any serious gay relationships.
LR: Well, maybe not serious.
MJ: Or even very many other ones. Very recently. [...] I mean, it was very nice during one period of my life to be attractive to men. Liking the attention, it was new. I hadn�t really considered it before, and there was a period when I went through that. You know, all that androgynous era.
LR: Which era was that?
MJ: I don�t know, the �60s, I guess."
Around the same time, he said in an interview to the French magazine VSD: "I'm not completely heterosexual but I've slept with more women than men." This was quoted again in a french biography which was published in 1993 not only with Mick's assent but also his cooperation.
So the question of Mick's sexual orientation is not a simple one. But I agree that it's probably more a question of "attitude" and style, than really having gay sex. In part, looking gay or androgynous has a great shock value on audiences!  Like kissing Ronnie, grinding against keyboard player Billy Preston, wearing frilly clothes and lots of make-up on stage.
On the other hand, there's probably something more complicated, which has to to with "enjoying the attention" from men or wearing female clothes and make up even when not on stage or acting in a movie. His camp mannerism in real life have been often commented on, from his giggle, pouting lips, mincing movements to the way he likes to chitchat with girls in a girlish way. In a way, it's like Mick was trying to be closer to women by looking and emoting like one. Not a bad ploy, for a seducer! And all the better for not being an act, but a genuine side of his personality.
