BARRY COWSILL'S BODY FOUND IN NEW ORLEANS
(AP)The body of 1960s singer BARRY COWSILL has been found by police in his adopted New Orleans, Louisiana.
The COWSILLS star was reported missing last year (05) after Hurricane Katrina ravaged America's Gulf states.
Family members launched a public campaign to locate the 51-year-old after his brother BOB spotted his sibling in a video of survivors posted on the CNN website.
But police confirmed they had found Cowsill dead at the Charles Street Wharf in New Orleans on 27 December (05).
The last the Cowsill family heard of Barry was a desperate message he left on his sister's answering machine, asking for help.
Cowsill had been plagued with substance abuse problems and, ironically, was just two days away from flying out to Los Angeles, where he was planning to enter a rehabilitation facility, when the August (05) storm hit.
The Cowsills were beloved US pop sweethearts throughout the late 1960s and early 1970s and inspired wholesome groups like THE PARTRIDGE FAMILY.

Singing Cowsill, 51, Was Fatal Victim Of Katrina
(AP) NEW ORLEANS, La. A body found on a New Orleans wharf in December has been identified as that of Barry Cowsill, a member ofthe popular 1960s singing family The Cowsills.
A coroner says Cowsill's body was recovered December 28th from the Chartres Street Wharf. Cowsill was identified from dental records Tuesday.
He was 51.
Doctor Louis Cataldie says he has yet to determine the cause of death but believes it to be related to Hurricane Katrina, which struck the city August 29th. The family Web site says Cowsill left messages on his sister's telephone answering machine on September first but had not been heard from since.
His brother, Richard Cowsill, says no memorial service is planned and his brother will be cremated.
Richard says of his brother: "He always said when I leave this place, you better party. And that's what we're planning to do."
The Cowsills were the inspiration for the 70's TV show "The Partridge Family."
