I suppose when you look at the way the Stones are seen in polls and versus the Beatles legacy..that maybe they're very guarded of holding on to the tour records...At their age thye cnat play as mant dates so they push the ticket price envelope...Imagine how much they could charge (and get)...if they announced in 2008 a Farewll For Ever Tour...? |

Yes they are barely holding on to anything anymore but the facts/numbers in regards to touring.
When it comes to opinion, they're doomed. Which is why more of you should obviously listen to jb. :-D

Do you remember the Pollstar announcement ?
"The Rolling Stones' "A Bigger Bang" tour led all other concert tours in 2005 with $162 million in gross receipts, according to the magazine.
The average Stones ticket was $133.98. The tour sold around 1.2 million tickets."
It was a complete bullshit !
Look at the true average tickets (according official numbers from Billboard http://www.billboard.com/bbcom/charts/boxscore.jsp ) :
SBC Park San Francisco : $11,210,733 / 87,054 = $129
MGM Grand Garden Las : $4,053,289 / 13,898 = $292
American Airlines Center Dallas : $2,792,740 / 15,351 = $182
Pepsi Center Denver : $2,707,590 /15,091 = $179
Toyota Center Houston : $2,616,385 / 15,251 = $172
Glendale Arena : $2,553,855 / 14,784 = $173
Save Mart Center Fresno: $2,324,305 / 13,378 = $174
FedEx Forum Memphis : $2,294,765 / 14,688 = $156
So...in the Pollstar article, gross receipts were wrong ? Or audiences were overestimated ?
Personally, I check box #2...

Thank you...sadly, too many losers here are equally excited about the Beatles, U2, etc....they have killed the legacy..thus, the tour gross is essentially to our survival....we need higher prices if there is to be a next tour...
That concertr list is a prime example,,Stones # and Beatle-what a joke....any 72 show was better than any of those concerts listed............

Tough to say Jeep....we had folks at every show and there were no reports of massive empty seats..and the figures on attendance for each show look reasonable.Hell maybe they made more than $162 and are embarassed to let it be known...lol |

most shows would have been wide open if not for the free tickets given away. The pollstar numbers just take gross ticket sales (assumed to be face value for each show for every ticket) and divide them by attendance to get average. WE all know that many shows, particularly Philly 2, Vegas, and Detroit did not sell well and many tickets were comped. this is where you get the lower price per ticket average. |

The time will come when the Stones break their own record from just 1 show. That could be around 2010. I can see it now. "An evening with the Stones and the Boston Pops Orchestra" at the Vegas MGM Grand.
Black tie only. |
